removal of delrin sub-frame bushings

I want to remove my delrin subframe bushings and replace them with aluminum. the problem is that I cannot get the bottom bushing out of the subframe. Any ideas? and what do you think about leaving the delrin in as the top bushing and using the aluminum on the bottom of the subframe? I am kind of leary (sp?) of the metal to metal contact against the bottom of the unibody. thanks--

Just leave the delrin in all the time. I seriously doubt you'd ever know the difference between the two. You'd have to work harder than the side walls of the tires to distort the delrin.

With the delrin do you leave the 4 10mm bolts in? if not SHOuldn't they just slid out? If you don't need the bushings just use a screwdriver and hammer, and slam them out. I personally would go with all aluminum instead of half and half. The ASB's are great. thumb

What I had to do was take the top half of the bushing off, turn it around, sit it on top of the bottom bushing, then jack the subframe up. The weight of the car will then pop the bottom bushing loose. It's not the most elegant solution, but that was the only way I could get mine out.

I wound up cutting off the top part of the bottom bushing with a Sawzall (reciprocating saw). then I pried them out with a pry bar. not the most elegant way but it worked. of course there is no way to go back to them now if I don't like the aluminum.

Shame you had to destroy them. Seems like kind of a waste.

Why are you switching, out of curioisty? It's doubtful you'll notice any difference, other than the aluminum bushings are heavier.

I didn't have the right washer for the bottom and was kind of deforming the bushing as I torqued it down. I also didn't want to have to check the torque of the bolt with the regularity required.
