so i have a problem...somehow or another, the lock for my remote trunk release got pushed down. now, this normally wouldn't be an issue, except that over the winter, circumstances required that i replace my trunk lid, and with it, my trunk lock. as luck would have it, i found a rust free lid in the boneyard that came with the proper key...some can see where this is going...unfortunately, that key doesn't match the lock for the remote release. so is there a way i can disassemble the mechanism and render the lock inoperable without destroying the whole damn thing?

There is, James did it with a screw driver in the parking lot in Seattle Convention.

However, I have no idea how.

Pull off the handles, take off the shroud, pull back the carpet, pull the lock ring off and take off the cylinder, and have it rekeyed. The only problem I had doing this was to get it off I had to grind the retaining pin off. If you don't put a retaining pin back in then the whole cylinder will come out if you unlock it.

Getting it in, out and rekeying was really easy. Luckily I worked at a locksmith at the time so I did it myself. There's only four pins from what I remember, but they are the flat pins, not the cylindrical ones.

Yes, that would make a difference - in that case all you need to do is pull it apart and remove all the tumbler pins from the lock and reassemble it. Then anything you stick in there will unlock it!

edit - btw, your 'old' trunk key will still unlock this lock.
