I'm looking into a remote start kit for my car. Just wanted some input as to which brands and models you recommend. I'm going to install it myself, I'm capable. I just want to make sure I get one that is of good quality and easy to use.

I have a '93 ATX and would like to use it with my factory keyless entry/alarm.

Thanks.

C'mon, somebodys gotta have these setups. I've seen some brands like DEI, Audiovox and Bulldog, I think alot of them are the same.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The Code Alarm Surestart LX is the same unit Ford repackages and sells as their "Gold" level alarm/remote start kit (1L3Z-19G364-CA List $322). It comes with new remotes that control everything, so you don't have to worry about carrying a separate remote for the remote start like with some add-on systems. I got mine for $80 on eBay a few months ago.

I'm pretty sure that all the Ford add-on alarms & remote starters are made by Code Alarm. The only thing I don't like is the rubbery buttons on the remote tend to get grungy pretty quickly.

I really like the Avital brand by Clifford. I have installed three of them and they are very nice and well documented. The avitals also have a 1/4 mile range and it really does work from very, very far away.

I have the Avital 6500 alarm and autostart. I installed the 4000 series on my wifes car. It is just an autostarter with door lock/unlock.

I have a 95 MTX with the factory-installed alarm and LoJack. I had a JTI starter installed that works with the factory alarm (still have a separate remote though). The remote has an expandable antenna which boasts 1 mile range (clear shot). I'm not sure which model I have but it's been great.

you can do it to an MTX you have to bypass your clutch pedal switch, and always remember to leave it out of gear, or it might go for a little ride on its own :)

There's new kinds of remote starters available now and they are getting popular fast. I am talking about the kind that have the 2 way pager feature. This is built into the lcd remote and lets you know if your alarm is going off from usually about a quarter mile away, also allowing you to access its keyless entry and alarm from that far too. One more thing i should mention. For all you MTX guys, check out the remote start that I am probably going to get in a few days. This one is made for manuals, if you click the link, you will see how it makes it impossible to leave it in gear. Well, here's the links, and sorry for the long post.
2 way pager...

2 way pagers on ebay...

and here is the one for manual transmissions(click alarm/remote starts, then click remote starts)

i hope all this works

Yes, my car is an MTX. You MUST leave it out of gear. I put the emergency brake on, like I normally do (not to tight), and sitting in the car, autostarted it. It will start, drag the rear wheels and keep on chugging, till it hits something.

I am working on making a switch so that when the shifter is in any other place except neutral and to the left it won't start.
