OK, how hard is it to add a remote start to a 2016? I am not opposed to going aftermarket, so that's an option unless there is a solid reason to stick with an added-on FoMoCo remote start. I've been doing sme reading here and it seems like you can add a genuine ford one on pretty easily, but I'm unsure on cost and any issues with going that route.

FWIW, I don't need particularly long range, I just need it to turn the car on and run the climate control so my car is comfortable when I get in.

Thanks,

Mike

You have a SHO without remote start? I didn't even know that was possible.

Looking at one. At least, remote start is not listed as a feature. Haven't seen it in person yet.

All 2013+ SHOs should have it. It is standard on the SEL and up so not listed under the SHO but it's there.

Ok, that is awesome. Because I was scratching my head about that, as it is an option that I ABSOLUTELY will use almost every day.

I use remote start every time I go to get in the car. Reason? Both my 2013 and 2016 like to "surge" when they are cold started. If I get in the car, and start it normally, no matter which time of year, I go to pull away and the engine surges.

If I remote start it from 20-30 feet away, by the time I get in the car, and pull away, it's fine.

Both cars did it. Just the nature of the beast, I guess.

Interesting! Mine does this too. I was kind of hoping cleaning the MAP sensors would remedy. I can't imagine the surge was overlooked (or intended) from Ford.

Is it a PP? I think the gearing makes it worse, or causes it to begin with.

I put together a 3.73 pumpkin with Auburn LS for my '96 t-bird that originally had a 3.27, and it woke up an EGR issue where it would surge because the EGR was coming on way too fast. I put a restrictor in the vacuum line and it fixed it.

In my case, I cleaned the MAP sensors in my 2016 around the 15K mile mark and one was coated in oil (separate issue, probably a TSB for it in my case) and it cured a surge at mid-range-throttle but did nothing for the surge seconds after startup.

I remote start mine almost every time just so it comes down from the high idle quicker. I don't notice surging but the idle does jump around some when it's cold. Cleaning the MAPs regularly seems to help. I just change the plugs after around 25k miles and it smoothed out some more and seems more responsive on tip in.

How about adding to a 2012? I assumed it came with it but found out later it did not. It has soooo many luxury features. Don't see how that was excluded.

I just wish there was an option to add the capabilities that are in the FordPass app where you can lock/unlock and remote start from a smartphone. Ford introduced it with 3 2017 models, but I don't know if they added it to the full line for 2018 and/or 2019. I would seriously think of getting it if there was a retro-addition for it to work with older models. I had Drone Mobile on my previous vehicle and used it all the time - especially at work where the range of the key fob wouldn't reach.

Umm, it's a dealer installed accessory for the taurus.

My apologies, Johnbigdog - you're saying that you can get this installed in an older Taurus that allows those features to work with FordPass? I thought (incorrectly, obviously) that remote starting/locking/unlocking features were only going to be available in 2018+. I didn't realize that it could be an option for an older Taurus.

My guess is that it's going to be too rich for my blood, but I'll at least look into what that would cost. I loved having that capability on my previous car.

Update - I could avoided looking more like an idiot than I already am if I had read another thread that was on the same page asking about this.

I'll take the walk of shame - sorry for making one of the worst mistakes on a forum of asking a question when the answer is literally just a couple of threads away.

No one is going to bat an eye. Look at all the threads on tunes, reliability, maintainence that come in. A few stickies would be great, or a page within a page.

There is a lot of work to a forum, I don't blame anyone for that.

Looks like smart link is good 2 go in 2010-2019 taurus to answer your previous question directly.

Thsnks again, Johnbigdog - appreciate it! I'll eventually get it, but it will probably wait until next year. Speaker upgrades, K&N drop-in, T-stat, and a tune will probably come first.
