Hahahahahahahahhahahahaaha..... You guys are gonna laugh your ass off and yes I am an idiot. I installed an autostarter on my mtx. It's an Avital 6500 and it's made for auto's only. You just have to remember to leave it out of gear, which is hard for me since I always put it in first when exiting the car.
Well, I was doing so good leaving it out of gear, except for this one morning. I looked out the back window, at my car sitting in front of my garage, and I pressed the button and runt, runt, WHAM! Right through the solid wood garage door. The wheels were cut a little so it went partially through the door and hit the side of the framework and shut off. Talk about feeling like an idiot. Wish I had a picture, but I didn't think to take one. Now, I am one of those kind of people that doesn't get too excited over things, so I looked at my wife and said, I just drove the SHO through the garage. I guess when something happens, I figure well it happened and there's nothing I can do about it now. So I calmly walked out to the car and backed it out of the garage door. It chipped the paint on the front bumper and scratched it up here and there. The garage door was pretty messed up. Luckily, I do body work and paint, so it only cost me the supplies.
I disconnected it until I can hook up some kind of switch on the shifter. There is a wire for the autostarter that when grounded, it will not autostart. I was thinking of getting some kind of magnetic window security type switch, that when the magnet is near the sensor it is opened/closed. I could mount the one part on the stick and make a bracket and mount the other part so that the shifter would have to be in neutral and to the left, in order for it to start.
It is dangerous having it hooked up without somekind of a safety switch. I stopped along side the road and put the emergency brake on like I normally would, put it in first and then autostarted it. It started right up and kept on chugging until I stopped it. Not good!
