I will be reinstalling the engine into my car here soon. Since the engine has been out for a good 3 - 4 years I forgot how it goes back in. Essentially I just need to know the basics and whatever tips you have.

My plan is to torque up the front of the engine get it off of the stand and onto the hoist. Then I will torque the rear carrier bolts and whatnot, and do essentially a clutch install and then start dropping the engine in.

First order of business: with no struts in the way can I install the tranny through the wheel well? If not can I put the tranny on the engine and then drop it through the top? I'd rather not drop the subframe again.

Second: When the engine is in place, what stuff between the engine and firewall becomes a real PITA to get to and attach?

Third, judging from the picture, what MUST I install before putting the engine in?

Last, I don't have my CVs yet. Can I install the CVs after the tranny and engine are bolted in?

Thanks for the ideas!

Note: the subframe is cleaned up, there is a new rack with nothing connected to it and I replaced the motor mounts that are on the engine block.

I'm putting mine in later / after. Curious how your replaced the rack. Drop the subframe?

I'm dropping mine in today hopefully, my tranny is still in the car, and held up by a jack, so I can't really drop my subframe at all. Kinda makes taking the rack out hard.

Eric:

Good time to clean it too. That purple stuff behind the rack is evil. It works really well but can damage aluminum and strip paint.

Thanks. I was going to do the big one but decided that it would take too long right now. Eventually I will rewrap the whole thing.

So I can pretty much expect the same level of difficulty if I connect stuff before I drop it all the way in than if I just put it in first and then start connecting things?

When I dropped my motor in I made sure to have the PS lines screwed into the rack before I put the motor infront of it....those are a PITA with the motor there.
