I know, I know...SHOShop used to sell em, and supposedly, if you have reinforced motor mounts, the limiters aren't even neccessary. However, in the process of swapping a tensioner pulley a couple of weeks ago, I left the tensioner out, thinking I wouldn't need it anymore. Since then, I've noticed a lot more movement in the shifter as well as more pronounced torque steer, presumably caused by the engine jumping.

Now...Obviously i'm gonna put the damn tensioner back in, but I'd prefer as little movement as possible in the driveline. any thoughts on how to reinforce/solidify it? I thought about removing the strut portion and replacing it with a heavy grade threaded steel rod and bolting the sucker down, but if I can do this for free, I'd be quite tickled.

By the by, both front and rear mounts have been drilled, bolted (with requisite sway bar bushings) and filled with window adhesive...so how they're still moving, I have no idea. So thoughts?

*EDIT
Oh, and I could honestly care less for NVH...it's a 95 with over 250k on the body, sound deadening's gone, and I'm the only one in it 98% of the time. So I'm not looking for a soft fix...i'm looking for something that'll stop that engine from moving.

I find it hard to believe that it's moving if the mounts are bolted. How much squash do you have on the sway bar bushings? Did you employ stop nuts on the bolts going through the mount? Have you recently inspected the trans mount?

The engine roll dampers don't stop the engine from moving, actually. They just stop it from jouncing back and forth from it's own inertia - the same way a strut stops the body from rebounding.

There were some solid ones for sale at the convention. I'm not sure who was selling them or if they were sold, but it might be worth it to post a WTB or ask in one of the convention threads. I think it was either Toolman or one of the St. Louis guys.

I have a full set of SHO Shop limiters on my '89. Second car they've been on.

The '91 parts car had an interesting homebrew solution. It looks like the PO of the '91 got some threaded rod of the appropriate size, cut to length, then used nuts and some swaybar endlink bushings and washers. Not pretty, but looks like it worked.

Here's a shot of the bottom mount of the SS setup on the driver's side. Cant' get a clean shot of them overall as pretty much everything else is in the way.

what engine limmiters?

I took them off and never noticed a difference

I did cripple the rear mount last time at the dragstrip and now I'm noticing some movement with the shifter and feel it when I get off the gas

I got bolted motor mounts with urethane and all 3 tq limiters on the 94 and bolted mounts on the 91. I would recomend just bolting some mount without bushings. If you have stock or gen 3 bushings, you wont even notice them. But you will be able to notice that you can chirp your shifts and leave nice even tire tracks.

i'm tempted to drag both my mounts to an exhaust place to have em welded...my only fear is tearing up the subframe. and to answer previous questions, all the bolts are tight, the bushings on the reinforcments while tight, aren't squished, and the trans mount hasn't been tampered with, though the bulk of the movement feels like it's in the right front.

I don't mean to make a point here I just don't even see the point of them. Any MTX with reinforced motor mounts doesn't need them. They are pointless. Why spend the time?

they make your car slower too

the entire system is a good chunk of weight....

I've seen people waiste way more time and tought process to reduce less weight

Out in front!
My mounts are as solid as they can be (no rubber only steel homemade by me ) and the engine still moves a bit without the limiters . I am only using the side ones the front was unnecessary with my custom ;) mounts.

so in other words, i should just accept this engine movement, yank the limiters and have a nice day?

I think thursday I'm gonna yank the mounts, tighten em up, and reinforce the trans mount. we'll see what happens then.
