I have cleared the EEC memory by disconnecting and reconnecting the test wire while it is flashing codes, and I have disconnected the battery for hours a FEW times for various maintenance, but I keep getting the code 49 in hard memory.

Throws 11's all day in KOEO and KOER immediate memory. What's going on here? Should I swap to my spare B9B EEC and see if it comes back? The connector behind the intake is intact and not looking suspect. Where's the other?

Should I sweat it? It will obviously run like crap if the SPOUT really is disconnected, and it seems to be running well at the moment.

There is a specifc diagnostic procedure set out in the PCED for diagnosing this code. A brief scan of the procedures indicates that the DIS is not responding to the SPOUT signal. This can be due to a faulty PCM or DIS or a wiring fault.

I have the 92 PCED that has the procedure. It is not too difficult and requires the use of a meter. An inductive timing light would also be helpful.

Steve, could you email me that procedure? Or fax it? PM me if you need fax#. Thanks for any light you can shed on this situation. I have a spare DIS, and probably a PCM, only I'm not sure what that is...(something) Control Module?
