My shifter seems a little sloppy to me. I just installed a new clutch, pressure plate, and thowout bearing but I don't really like the way the shifter rows. It's a 94 so it is the Rod type shift, I was just thinking that maybe the shifter has seen better days from all these years of being hammered on. "By the last owner" 86k. The car shift great but you really have to row it yourself. Am I just used to Hurst shifters. My shirter has no "spring action from 2nd to 3rd. It just wants to shift straight up and I hit nothing. Let me know if this is normal. And also where to find the parts and maybe some details on the rebuild itelf. A little instruction never hurts. By the way, I tried a search but I couldn't find anything but info on short throw BS.

"Bump" Come on guys, this has to be a common discussion! I forgot to mention, and I know I will be asked, I used Mobil One synthetic fluid in the trans. I was going to use Redline but I didn't want to wait to order from Summit.

The shifter centering spring (that's what moves the shifter to middle in neutral) is actually inside the transmission. The spring might be worn out or missing. Did you replace the parts (clutch etc) yourself or did a shop do it?

I did all the work myself. The tranny was a used unit with 74k so I didn't open it up. Like I say the tranny shifts into all gears great but it takes a lot of precision to hit them fast. It's more annoying than a problem. I just figured that rebuilding the shifter might help. I was checking the spring tension on the 1 to 2 shift and it is there, just weak. If that spring is in the tranny I'm screwed. Id still like to look into rebuilding the shifter.

the springs are in the tranny, i believe the only thing rebuildable on the shifter are the bushings. check to see if there is play in the shifter linkage, also check to make sure the rod is securely attached to the trans. If the spring action is what you really want you will have to open up the transaxle to remedy it

anyone got a part number for the bushings on the rod shifter? I noticed mine are really cracked and look like shit. Just wondering if that is lending itself to the extra effort I have been having to put into sifting into 1-3 since it has gotten really cold. Its almost like that I have to hit the spot just right to make it go in. Yet I'm not grinding or anything like that, just have to line up shifts just right.
