anyone know if it is possible to install 6x9's in the rear stock 6x8 openings? i was thinking maybe they could be mounted from under the rear deck, from inside the trunk with some short self-tappers. Anyone think this will work? or do i have to settle with doing some metal work.

according to crutchfield you can do it. after all, I had 6x9 woofers under the stockers, per the Gen I JBL system.

I have a Gen II and replaced my stock rear speakers with 6 x 8's which I have been told are actually over sized 5 x 7's. So I am not sure that 6 x 9's will fit in a Gen II.

If you have a Gen. I it can be done. It's a PITA though to get the old ones out.

its a gen II, i do have some aftermarket 6x8s (pioneer) installed in there but i would like to put some 6x9's im thinking if i crawl up in the trunk and mount them from under there, it might work.

I sell a bracket that converts 5x7 opening to house a 6x9 speaker. I'll be doing a swap of speakers this weekend. I'll let you know how I make out.

Please do Rickie, that opens up alot more choices in speakers. Wow does it convert them an extention or something like that?

I installed 8" MB Quart in the rear of my 89 with 2hours of a little cutting and filing. Always try to avoid "oval" set ups because sound quality just can't keep with the "round" speakers.

Keep the 6X8's and buy a subwoofer instead of getting the 6X9's. I'm assuming you want more bass, but 6X9's are the worst overall speaker due to their larger size. Bass is only marginally improved, and midrange and high end is worse. If you like clarity then keep the smaller speakers in there and consider perhaps a 10" sub? Polk makes a lot of subs designed to fit in small sealed enclosures.

Somethin to think about :)
