I need (and have) a replacement rear motor mount for the 89. I'm pretty sure it's shot since I've tested it with the parking brake on. When I put it in R with the e-brake, and try to accelerate, the motor jumps. Makes sense as I previously had a bad front mount, which I replaced with a reinforced mount.

The other day, my brother and I were playing around with the car, and he started turning the wheel while the car was running. I witnessed the engine move "side to side", which I thought was odd.

Is this due to my broken rear mount also...or should I replace the tranny mount as well?

I still have the splash shield removed, so it's just a matter of jacking the car up, removing the bottom large bolt and 2 long, skinny bolts--doesn't look too involved. As for the tranny mount, I have no idea where it is or how to check it.

The engine moving side to side is the subframe bushings. My car does the same thing. I think some movement is expected, but not excessive. Im not 100% sure what would be considered excessive movement. Maybe someone else with more experience can chime in.

Thanks, I did more searching and that's what I found also. The bushings appear to have been replaced at some point, but I guess that doesn't matter as the car is 23 years old. They don't look dry-rotted or anything.

I heard I can buy 4 rear 96 bushings and they are the same ones, correct? That probably explains the clunk I'm getting at turns and over bumps since the struts have been replaced by the PO. I think I have a subfame moving around.

Yes, 4 rear gen 3 Taurus bushings with work fine. If you want to be cheap, you can get them at the JY. If not, they are about $15 each with a new bolt on rockauto's site.

You will either have to cut the alignment nub off, or use a dremel to grind a place in the subframe for it to fit. Honestly, if you have the dremel, I'd do it that way.

Get 4 new gen3 rear mounts, rockauto has them the cheapest. The bolt that it comes with is not the same thread as a gen1 or 2 taurus, but you can for sure use the same bolt thats on there now. Don't tighten past 100 ft-lb or you'll snap the nuts. If you do that, you'll have to get that subframe bolt kit, which if you really want to keep your sho a while, I'd get it anyways.

Its nothing to cut the little nubs in the frame to get them to fit.
