Hi guys,
Well, as is typical, today someone in heavy traffic was busy rubbernecking and forgot there is such as thing as STOP and go traffic.. and he found the rear of my 2010 in front of him..

So, he hit me hard enough it messed his hood up, as he hit his brakes at the last second and his little pontiac GP tried to drive under me.. unfortunately, we have a tall bumper.
so he hit hard enough to leave a ton of paint on my bumper, hit in to mess up my licensplate, the trunk pop in the license plate area doesn't work and it tore one of the covers on teh right and messed up the other..
I haven't gotten under it as my neck is stiff from the impact.

Is there much in the way of electronics around in that bumper besides the switch and receiver for the key fob? Can a body shop take care of all this or am I going to have to go to 2 places to repair it..
*at least he has insurance*..
I have the backup camera (which works), but I can't tell if the rear collision stuff is working, it didn't seem to, so suspect it got damaged...
Not like the gen1/2/ where you just replace the bumper and bumper shocks..

What do I have to worry about? I have only had this car a year, and it's low miles and was perfect.. sigh.

The reverse sensing sensors are on the bumper...the four quarter size indentations....six if you have Active Park Assist. The trunk external latch is on top of the license plate insert. I would insist on OEM replacement parts and make sure there is no underlying frame damage. Easy test is place into reverse and SLOWLY back towards a fixed object. if the sensors go off then they still work. Also check to make sure "Rear Park Aid" is selected ON from the settings menu in the drivers information center. Sad state of affairs that people aren't paying attention. I would almost bet a cell phone was involved on their end but maybe tough to prove late in this game.

There are also sensors for the blind spot information system (BLIS) that are in the corners. I'm not clear if they are in the rear corners or more on the side of the rear bumper cover. Have you tried your BLIS yet?

That sucks! I was almost in your position. Long story short; took my 2010 SHO to the dealer last week for a trans TSB and a noise coming from the front driver side. They had it all week and did not fix the noise, although they said they did. Frustrating right!?! Well, yesterday I was sitting at a red light in one of my companies work trucks, an 08 F-250. All of a sudden, BAM! A 2000 Chevy Metro smacked me. He was probably texting. He hit the trailer hitch and had a hole on his hood. No damage to the truck. Had the dealer actually gotten it right the first time, he would've been under my car, probably just like yours except he was probably going faster. I must have had some good karma.

I feel for you. I just got my 2013 back today after 4 weeks at our body shop. I work at a Ford dealer and a month ago, I was involved in a 3 car accident when 2 cars ahead slammed on brakes on the expressway and I hit the guy ahead. He had a 98 GMC Jimmy with 200k miles. Somebody cut somebody off, etc. I had to replace the hood, grill, front cover and radiator. Super slow insurance co was the main problem and a couple of back ordered Ford parts. Hopefully everything goes smooth for you. Definitely get OEM parts. I had just 4200 miles on my baby and only 3 months old. I hope it's not bad karma for me with this car. I've really grown to hate rush hour traffic. Good luck.

I would insist on OEM replacement parts.

Definitely get OEM parts.

I don't know if this is true for your insurance company, but mine told me on any car over 3 model years old they will use "aftermarket OEM" parts. Basically "made in China" parts. If this is the case, talk to the body shop about OEM parts from Ford and you pay the difference. The owner of a body shop, who I know well, told me that Ford has agreements with these aftermarket companies and gets a cut from them. So the parts are not that mush more expensive if you get them through Ford. For example, I needed a fender. Insurance said they would only pay for aftermarket fender. I told the body shop to get the fender from Ford and I'd pay the difference which was only $50. And after all that, the insurance company paid for the fender in full, and the body shop sent me a check for the difference I paid.

The bumper sensors are looped in a wire loom that ultimately ends in the trunk. If they don't work, it is likely some broken wires. If bumper cover is being replaced, I would insist on new sensors. (I installed that type of system in both my G8's, after having them + the backup camera in Flex).

Since you were hit, vs you at fault, their insurance co. needs to be proactive and use OEM parts. Don't know how much the final bill will be... but in many states, the cost goes on your info... which hurts when you trade, unless nothing serious was damaged.

Good luck!!!!!

If the fenders are truly "aftermarket OEM" there should be no difference between them and the FoMoCo fenders. OEM stands for "Original Equipment Manufacturer". For all practical purposes, and OEM replacement would be the same, but maybe without the FoMoCo logo stamped in them. It would not mean "made in China" unless the Ford fenders are made in China, which is possible.

For example, several years of Ford oxygen sensors are made by NGK. NGK is the OEM. If you pull the original sensor out, you will find logos for Ford as well as NGK on the parts.

I popped into Kadels (local auto-body) and the preliminary estimate is 1600... They aren't sure if the trunk gap is correct, and til the get the bumper off, they can't really tell how badly damaged the wire loom is.. but my BLIS sensors aren't working on one side, and it appears I have blind spots in the distance sensor too.. so it looks like a couple of the 4 rear sensors are out..
fun fun..
But I will do it all OEM, no shortcuts, I got this car with <10k on it, and I've put a bunch of miles on it and plan to put all the rest til this car dies on it.. so need it fixed right.

As it should be they hit you don't let them try to control the purse strings...go after their insurance company and don't let them bully you.
