Okay this question has been bothering me for a long time now and i cant seem to find the answer...

I have seen a lot of Gen 3 SHOs since i have been on the boards here and I have noticed one thing that seems to be non year specific.... well two things. :nut: but the first is more important. :p

I have noticed that one some V8 SHOs (less common) there is a difference with the tail lights. Some have that black cover extend across the trunk to connect both lights and others dont have the black plastic... just the paint. From what i can gather, the most common sightings of this are on 96 and 99 models... What is the deal? I cant find anything on factory specs on V8SHO.com or on here.

Second thing:
I also have seen a second type of wheel that appears on what look like the 99 model SHOs... They are less curved than the chrome wheels that are the most common. Are these "other" wheels (for lack of better term) an option for the SHOs? If so, what years?

Sorry for the newby questions but its one of those things that you think you have figured out and then something comes up to proove you wrong... Cant quite put my finger on it. Thanks for the help!

For #2, the 99 wheel was SHO specific and I believe is the lightest of all the Gen 3 wheels (not by much, though). The 96-98 wheels were also installed on some Lincolns and are much more common.

all gen III sho's have the painted middle tail section. it just hard to tell on black cars. also 96-97 had amber turnsignals and the 98-99 had red.

Yeah, I have the 2nd type of wheel on my SHO. I believe they also came on the GenIV taurus centennial edition. These are the rims you're talking about right?

The only thing I dont like about those wheels is the "webbing" between the spokes, I always thought those would look so much better if that "webbing" was grinded down or somthing.

I thought the centennial had 'slicer' style wheels with black inserts.

The gen3 chrome wheels can be found on the lincoln continnental and sable 'sport' package.

The 99 Gen3 wheels are also found on regular Taurus SEs as well...

Ditto. With sharp edges at the spokes those wheels would be perfect. Every time I see '99 wheels (which also were available on '99 SE and/or LX model Tauruses) from a car length or so away, I think of the old "fat star" Carl's Jr. star.

Funny, that's what I like about them. I'd like to get a set for my G2.

that 100th anniversary version and the Sport I think where the only special gen IV's. The sport had a monochrome treatment and had what looked like a new take on the slicer wheels.

Regarding the Taillights - the Dark Plastic is Regular Tortise, only the SHO comes in Body Colored Center Section. That Piece is also Several Hundred Dollars more than the SLO piece. I had a regular piece (SLO) on a 97 SHO I bought and it got rear ended and broke the taillights. The insurance Co. wouldn't put a SHO piece in because is was so much more. When I priced out the difference I was shocked. I finally got the right piece from a V8SHO.com email list member.
I assume when others get the quote for a repair they are paying for they just settle for the SLO Part is why you see them on SHO's.

my best friend recently bought an 02 ses sport. as far as i know the engine is a normal tec30, it has a set of directional 5 spoke wheels, with ford logo's in the center, the front spear is body color, the back spear is body color, the interior has a nice 2-tone overlay, sunroof, thats all i can think of.

they look fabulous in black. he is thinking about getting the centenial style headlights as you can see above, they are shaded black inside from what it appears.
