About half of my rear defroster works, I have found. It's the top half. What could cause this, how do you fix it? is it something I would be smart to take to a pro? thanks in advance.

It means your grid has an open in it. When that happened on mine I soon developed a broken window and it was replaced by my insurance co.

The grids can be repaired. You can get a repair kit at most auto specialty stores.

Use a voltmeter and run it along the grid until the voltage drops off. If you look closely, you'll see the hairline break in the grid. Apply the repair compound to the break and you'll be fine.

I had the same problem. I pulled the window tinting off my car and the conductive element went with it. It was easier for me to get another rear window ($110 used installed). I need a way to check the continuity using a multimeter. What should the readout be if the lines are intact?
Thanks
Bill
