Oh yeah and I meant to ask, Can I just unplug the struts electric connector to put my struts into soft ride mode or do I need to supply power to them somehow. The roads here suck nutz and my suspension seems stiff so I would like to be able to make is a soft and smooth as possible. Thanks.

Yes, there is a difference. OE springs are a dealer only item. They're actually not that expensive from the dealer, especially 99 springs which were subject to the recall.
Well I was reading at V8SHO last night and did the ignition on/off test on them last night and I am certain I need new struts so I am just going to buy new struts all the way around and new springs for the rear.
The part numbers I am finding for Monroe's is 171615 for the front and 171616 for the rear. It list these as replacements but on some sites it seems those are only for reguar Taurus. Will these work on a SHO with no modding?

You don't want the Monroe's. They will not handle the weight.
But I don't know if yoiu are talking about springs or struts. Struts definitely won't work well.

Mistake # 1...
New rear springs should be less than $50/each at the dealer.
For struts, I've been recommending that people go with the OE Ford Gen IV struts. A full set of 4 will run you about $250 or so from a place like http://www.fastpartsnetwork.com
So when I tried to order springs today at my local Ford dealer the springs (F6DZ-AC) I requested were obsolete apparently. The only info he could offer me for the springs that were available were for spring code J. Can someone tell me if you know what the spring/load rate is for this J code. Thanks.

Yes, that is in a post above. If you will notice there is no info in the J section of the rear spring grid. That was the info I was wondering if anyone knew.

I got them installed this morning and there is no way they are a higher rate spring than what they advertise. My cars ass is sagging almost as bad with the new springs as it was with the broken ones. This blows.

If they had them on the shelf, they're most likely regular Taurus springs. VERY rare for any parts store to lhave SHO-specific parts in stock.
Have to resurrect this but I wanted to ask if the rear Taurus Station Wagon springs would be compatible on the SHO? I would think that the spring rate (on the wagon) would be higher due to the extra weight load on the rear of the car and would keep the SHO rear end from bottoming out if you bought a set of Eibach's for the Station Wagon.
