Is there a mod to turn the rear camera on without the car in reverse? This might be a good question for the Mustang folks who like to see their smoky burnouts.

My idea/suggestion would be to get the wiring for it.. find out what "switch" controls it adn override it with either your own switch, or just fool it to think the car is either always in
"r" or "p"

The two or three safety-bypass units out there (that let you enter nav, use sat link info, etc while in motion) also let you enable the rear-camera while in drive...

I KEN DO ZAT! I KEN DO ZAT!

</chekov>

Sorry, I watched the new Star Trek movie again yesterday. For the fifth time...

anyway, the answer you seek likes HERE!

Check it out. Yes, it's expensive, but the gen 4s are nothing like the gen 1 and 2s of yore... there are no simple wires to hack or switches to install... it's all done in software and through solid state. Bad for us, good for them as they can program all sorts of crazy stuff.

I plan on getting one for my mustang when I get it.

Cool device! I knew that it was only a matter of time. Now all they need to add to it is a data logger function and the ability to display boost and other realtime engine parameters on the nav display. :D

Hi Guys,

I have this product installed and it was a very simple install (Plug n play) The difficult part was pulling the head unit out.

I hired a Best Buy audio geek to do it for 50 bucks. It was worth it as I watched him do it and assisted with placing the pieces out the way from being damaged or scratched. It took 60 minutes the first time and 25 the second.

Why you ask was there a second time? Well he missed reinstalling the antenna cable and the whole thing had to come out again.

The unit allows you to view DVD's in motion and allows you to view rear camera (at anytime) and add an additional camera if you want .

It also allows you to type in an address while car is in motion. (You have 60 seconds ) or you have to re enable it.

The same 60 sec time-out works on Movie Listings and sports scores.

The general procedure to get to the head unit.

Remove the two long trim pieces along center console. And disconnect wiring harness to PTS button and Trunk button (keep the push to start trim handy)

Remove console boxes and shade switch trim and disconnect wiring harness

Start car again by plugging in PTS and move selector into Neutral. Turn off vehicle.

Remove Center Dash speaker cover

Remove under steering knee pad

Remove trim with pedal height switches

Remove trim with inside thermostat

Remove the silver instrument cluster skin. Bring steering wheel tilt loose , down and out as far as possible. Be careful with getting this out and back in. As the tabs could damage the dash pad.

Now remove the climate control and radio face plate (DON'T DROP)

Now remove LCD screen, then remove the head unit

There has got to be a way to do this with just software either through the USB connection or obd port.

No Pics were taken, and I have no interest in repeating the procedure , only to document it with pics.

Sorry
