Has anyone tried to upgrade the rear camera? The camera on these cars are crap. My wife has a Honda Odyssey and the camera on that is 100 times better..

I notice that the picture quality is easily degraded if the camera lens has wax or any other foreign material on it. I would clean it carefully with glass cleaner first - that makes a huge difference.

Picture is not awesome but "OK".

Upgrade is tricky because:

1. Integrated into the emblem
2. Gets the direction information via LIN bus which means that a non Ford camera would not show direction lines anymore while moving the steering wheel

If you don't have the Active Park Assist (APA) which is part of the drivers assist package then the "Predictive path turning" lines are not a factor. You still have the green yellow red distance indications but the movable turn lines are part of the APA. As for upgrades apial is probably correct especially 2013 and above models since the display is also incorporated into the center Multi Function Display. Easy way to check for APA is check the front bumper outside corners look for the APA sensor.

Check the lens, see if it is scratched, chipped, cracked, etc....that could be causing the bad display.

Besides the integration in the logo, you could technically replace the camera with one on the plate for example. The APIM has normal Video+ and - so it can display any kind of standard camera signal.
But I personally also think that the active turning lines are very importing, since you can easily predict where you going but this is personal taste I guess :)

Some Ford vehicles without APA have the predicted path lines. It would be nice to figure out how....

A 15 mustang for example with a 4.2" display for instance has predicted path lines but a Taurus without APA doesn't. Why and how does the Mustang have it but a Taurus doesn't

Technically it doesn't make sense, since the necessary information is provided by the SCCM and is also needed for ESC - so definitely available on all Taurus.

Not sure why they make a difference but you know Ford, its not always logical ;)

Are the lines on the 2010 SHOs supposed to move when the wheel is turned? My parking lines stay straight, possibly a setting I have overlooked?

There was apparently a change to the firmware after the 2013 year. I had the predictive path indicator originally, but the camera (which was bad to begin with) fritzed out after two years and I had it replaced under warranty. The updated camera was much better--especially with night adaptation--but the predictive indicator was eliminated.

Then they did not do the proper replacement process.
