Uggh one problem after another. Just paid 1200 for some suspension and clutch replacement on my 89. Long story short it rolled backwards out of their parking lot and down a little hill. When it was pulled out the rear bumper got ripped off. I am told the bumper is fine but it will need new supports. Can someone please enlighten me as to what supports he may be talking about. I haven't seen the extent of the damage yet. Any help is much appreciated.

You need to find out if it is plastic attachment points on the bumper cover or if it's the metal mounts that go to the unit body sorta shaped like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/5F1Z17A751...a=0&pg=2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100752.m1982
not the exact part. You may have trouble finding new replacements and look for used if needed. But first you need a good idea of what is damaged so you can look for the correct part

Sorry to hear, I hope they are covering the cost to repair, etc.

Yeah get some pics. The metal parts are not extinct (in the used market and maybe not in the new old stock department) and easy to replace. I used a used set back in the 90's when I was broke. Just get the right items identified and then panic.

There are parts cars out there that should have these parts available. Dan in Pittsburgh probably has something on his parts cars.

Sweet thank you. I will have pics by this weekend. Just passes inspection besides the rear bumper so hopefully back on the road very soon. Damn this is getting costly but it will be a sweet ride when I am done.

The inner bumper is plastic. The mounts on the body are steel. The inner bumper has steel inserts on the inside that the mounting bolts thread into and hold the bumper in place. It sounds like either your inner bumper is broken and or the tabs holding the steel inserts are broken.

Damn, I was hoping I could start searching for what I need ahead of time of getting it back. Oh well, I will just have to wait until I get it back to see what all needs to be done? I presume if the plastic ones are broke that I will have to fiberglass fab some new brackets or something?

The plastic inner bumper is nothing more than a regular Taurus bumper that has been trimmed to fit inside the SHO bumper cover. If yours is damaged I'm gonna say it's more than likely ruined. The plastic is very brittle. Your best option would be to find another SHO bumper or find a regular Taurus bumper and trim it to fit under your cover.

You need eyeballs on it and make a plan from there. That sucks you have more work from getting it worked on.

It looks like the plastic inner bumper is busted on the right side where it secures to the body.

Can you swap in the plastic bumper parts from another used bumper or do they sell them used? I swapped out the metal mounts before but I never had to fix the plastic.

Yeah, that's toast. You'd be better off finding a replacement.

I cant find one that is reasonable to ship. Please keep your eyes open for me. I cant get it on the road until I get this fixed. Kind of sad inhale done soooooo much work to it so far to see her sit doing nothing.
