Okay I took advantage of a beautiful day outside to really look over my new toy. I got 'er jacked up on stands on all 4 corners and crawled around. Found a few interesting things. Someone took a small tranny cooler (hayden) and hung it behind the lower fan for a power steering cooler.... Hmm, do we have them normally?
I decided I wanted to bleed the brakes as they are a bit soft. Dan put some nicer wheels on the back since the ones that came on it were coated with rust... The wheel wells have it too. Here's the good though.. New rotor, pads, maybe calipers on the back. New pads and poss. turned rotors on the front. I go to the right rear and set up... I couldn't get anything to come out of it. I even took the screw out to see if there was even fluid... Yep. I check all and there was fluid. Okay so I crawl under to take a better look at the prop. valve. The "plungers" aren't even in the "out" position to show it that the suspension is unloaded. Looks like they are stuck all the way in. I wiggle the lever and push on them a little bit and still nothing... Okay, so I call the neighbor man over to push the pedal for me to see something. I start turning the rt rear, and it VERY, VERY slowly stops it... Hmmm, maybe a contributing factor the rusty wheels and front end damage??? I went a sprayed all fittings, etc with PB so if I have to chase a bleed... What can I do now?

TIA, Eric

Both SHOs I have owned have small power steering fluid coolers.

make sure that your rear hoses haven't collapsed. This happens often on Taurii.

Second, make sure that the brake bias vavle is functioning, or bypass it altogether.

If it is functioning, then you need to level the suspension before you can bleed the brakes. I do this by placing a jackstand under the hat of the rotor and gently lowering the car until it is level, and the fluid flows through the valve...

Yes, a p/s cooler is stock on most cars so equipped, Taurii and SHOs included. The SHO p/s coolers are notorious for leaking, though, so somebody may have just gotten tired of dealing with the stock unit and replaced it with something different.

My 95 is one of the few SHOs I've ever seen with a leak-free p/s cooler.

I dont think the valve is working. The spring and all is pretty crusty, unlike the rest of the underside (is real clean). Like I said I sprayed everything with PB Blaster so hopefully I can narrow it down as to where the problem starts. I'll just go right to the Rt Rear ifrst and only jack that one up and see if she bleeds out. If not Ill crack loose the union at the hose and metal, and go back from there if I have to.

Thanks

I think its pretty much done.. I physically pushed the lever against the valves real hard while under there yesterday and they didn't move... in or our... also with my neighbor pumping the pedal... Are the plugs a standard pipe thread? They just screw out dont they? Didn't fiddle with the brakes today, I finished removing a hack job alarm and fixing a wire that pulled from the driverside door in the process. Wow, these doors come off easy!

I got into the rear brakes today. I took apart the union at the metal line and the rubber hose in the right rear where I got a VERY slow braking action the other day when the neighbor pushed the brakes for me. I had fluid coming from the metal line. Pushed the pedal a couple of times, came out okay. I'm still gonna go through the bias valve... So now I pop off the hose. I try to spray it out with brake cleaner and it sprayed back at me almost instantly. So then I get a piece of stiff wire and it stops at eh metal thingy tfor the bracket. It doesnt look "overly" rusted ,I noticed this was mentioned in alot of posts as far as restricting it right there. The drivers side turned out to be the same... I'm gonna try to cut most of the bracket off them tomorrow and see what happens. They were doing something, just not alot... Have to adjust the parking brake on the driver side too, it drags.

Driver side was fine, just the crush washers need replaced now. The inner pad was cocked and dragging bad. I thought it was the parking brake. Gonna fiddle with the pass. side early next week.

Many have found including myself that the rear brake hoses collapse causing the calipers to stay engaged. This causes dragging, excessive heat, and eventually fire. :omg:

I have also found that on two of the SHO's I have owned up here in the midwest that the lever (for use of a better word) can stick when the seal that the shaft goes through into the caliper housing fails. This lever is what the E-brake cable attaches to. It is usually returned to a free state by the spring that is pressed against it and the caliper body.

FYI - You should start a new topic in regards to this problem, not add a post on a post that is several months old.

Your lock up can be caused by several things: E-brake cable hanging up, air in the lines, collapsed rear hoses (restricting fluid flow), and stuck slider pins, or a bad caliper.
