Due to :ahem: extenuating circumstances, I have to replace the right rear knuckle on the 98. Are there any brake upgrades available for the gen III Rear brakes that would require a different knuckle? Figure since I'm replacing it, I may as well modify in the process...

No.

AFAIK, nobody has tried retrofitting another spindle on the rear. FWIW, the rear spindle will be common to any '93+ Taurus sedan with ABS. You can even make a drum brake spindle work by swapping the backing plate.

For the rear brakes, aside from bias plugs the only "upgrade" is the 11.6" vented kit which doesn't really do much beyond improving looks if you have larger wheels.
