I finally got the tranny in and the brakes done and drove the car for the first time last night. Overall I'm very impressed with the performance but I've never driven an SHO before so I have nothing to compare it to. The car seems really weak on the bottom end but once it hits 4000rpm you can actually here the motor take off. Kind of like when secondaries kick in on a Holley. Is this normal? I know that the 3.0 doesn't have a lot of low end torque so I'm not too worried. Just wanted to see how everyone else's car's pull through the rpm range. I understand about power bands and stuff but this feels like the computer is actually kicking in some timing and more fuel or something. It really takes off.

The reason why it seems to take off a 4000rpm is because the secondaries open up feeding the motor more air. I am told with the chip they open sooner, you wont get the same jolt at 4grand because the power will be there sooner and wont go from no torque to a lot of torque.

You may want to check to see if the secondaries are open all the time, mine were when I got the car. There are 2 vacuum actuators on the intake one on the front tank and one on the back tank. Have someone start the car and watch and see of they move when it is started, they should. If they don't, eather the vacume line is broken or disconnected or the electrical connection to the controller is unhooked (that what was wrong with mine). The controller is on the back tank and should have an electrical connector on the drivers side. If its not hooked up fish aroud and you will find the connector. Hope this helps.

What chip? Sho Shop's LPM? I'll definateley check out the secondaries, I didn't realize that fuel injected cars had secondaries. I forgot to mention that this car has 86k on it and although it had regular fluid changes it did not have much maintenance done. It idles rough sometimes and I was planning on cleaning the IAV. Could that be affecting low end power?

The secondaries I am refering to is the intake runners. The shorter larger diameter are the ones that open at about 4grand. It is a sho specific, not fuel injection specific.

I think his secondary valves are working just fine. Otherwise, he wouldn't notice the kick in the pants you get at 4 grand (3900 actually). I would think that with the secondaries open all the time, the result would be weaker performance below say 3 grand and a more gradual linear power build up. There would not be the huge jump in power we experience now.

I think ford goofed using 3900 as a switching point. Judging by the way the thing pulls as soon as they open, I would guess that opening them somewhere around 3500 would be preferable, maybe even sooner.

When do the chipped cars open them? And has anybody ever played around with wiring it so you could experiment with different opening points? A little wire and a switch would be all that is needed to accomplish this. Having a co-pilot to handle secondary management duties would help as well.

An LPM can set the secondairies to open at any RPM. Most programmers recommend against lowering that poin uless you have major mods. There isn't much gain to be had.

When I first got my car and mine were unhooked, the point at which the secondaries were suppose to open was very noticable. The car was very sluggish untill 4000 RPM and them wham! lots 'o power.
