Its to the point now that its annoying. If I put my hand on it the noise goes away. Was looking at the screws and doesnt look like it can adjust much higher. Maybe I am missing something. Just tired of the thing making noise. Can anyone help me out here

+1. From the description it sounds like the shade. If your sunroof itself is rattling you're probably going to need new sunroof seals. If it's at that point though, it should also be leaking.

the actual sunroof took the shade out cause it was just too dam noisey. Seal actually looks pretty good. Would a new seal possibly solve the problem?

Had the same issue on my 92. I took down the headliner to have a closer look. The entire sunroof assembly is bonded to the roof with glue/epoxy. The rear section had come loose and was causing the rattling. I mixed up some epoxy and reattached it, never had a problem after that.

I'm glad you asked the question. I have the same rattle.

How hard s it to R&R the headliner?:)

I didn't remove the headliner from the car. I just took it down and slid it on top of the dashboard as far as it would go. There was just enough room to sit in the back seat and do the repair. Didn't want to take the chance of creasing it.

I guess I better chime in.
I had completely removed the sunroof assembly on my 89.
It is held in place in the front with rivets.
The back rails are held in place with a tab on each side that the rails slip under.
If all bolts and screws are tight, then the arm assembly is worn and is the culprit.
There are also rubber sleeves that wear thin or fall off.
I'll try to locate pics later.

That is correct - it is riveted in. If the rivets have come loose, it can rattle, otherwise its the arms that flip the rear of the glass up or down to allow it to move that are rattling.

You should be able to wiggle it by hand and narrow down where the noise is coming from.

I was hoping you'd forget.
I had to do some digging.
Here's one before removal, it shows the lifting arms.
2001-08-29024.jpg

Here the assembly is removed.
Note the 5 nutserts on the Pside for reassembly.
2002-04-10005.jpg

These are the clips that retain the track to the body at the rear.
2002-04-11001.jpg

These sliders stay in the track for proper alignment.
The Spring steel insert either rusts or looses tension.
2002-04-10014.jpg

Here are the front hinge rails and retainers with bolts.
And the slider spring steel inserts from good to not so good.

The underside of the assembly.

And reinstalled.

I realize the pics aren't the best.
But that's all I can offer to the best of my memory.
I used nutserts and stainless bolts instead of rivets.
I also made my own track to body seal.
