I rented a crank pulley puller the other day, and spent all day TRYING to pull the pulley. I never really got it off though, Well I used a little PB blaster and SOME heat, Nothing too intense though.

Well this was all on thursday..Friday I didnt drive the car at all..Like maybe 10 miles. Well I get in my car tonight after working on my friends SHO, and fired it up..I gave it a small rev, Then it starts missing and just dies.

It re-started right away..I decided Id try my luck and drive it..Acted fine for about 3 miles, I took off from a light (not WOT) and around 3k it just missed, then acted fine. Acted fine rest of the night, I came in around 2 and it missed once but just barely coming down my street.

What would cause the random misfire..Think it might be the CPS since its the only thing that was near the crank pulley?

TIA!

It's probably not your CPS cause when it fails your car won't start. Did you take off your DIS while doing this or just unplug it? It could be totally unrelated to you working on it, and something else just happens to be acting up. Any check engine light?

If you did not get the pulley back on completly, it could be wobbling just a very tiny amount, which could also cause the gap between some of the metal vanes on the timing belt pulley and the cps to be off just enough to cause what you are experiencing. This would be unusual, but it is possible.

This of course can cause major problems down the road. Get a big torque wrench, with a 1/2" drive and be sure that crank pulley bolt is torqued to at least 120 ft.lbs., more if you can manage it.

You should also check for codes. That is always the first place to start with these cars. If you need to know how, just do a search here under codes, and you will get tons of information on how to do it, and what each code means.
