Luigisho said it well regarding the failure rates of the alternator and starter. I bought a remanufactured Ultima brand alternator from O'Reilly with a LLT warranty and have replaced it eight (8) times over the years. Some of the outside-of-USA remans have lasted only days.

A new battery is a good idea for your situation when you install a "good" alternator since it has been overcharged.

I bought a used alternator from Fred here and it died in (2) days time. That's not his fault...

The car sat for most of this year because I've just got other things on my plate way more important. Finally brought the OE alternator to a local place that rebuilds *only* OE and it has been great ever since. $65 and 45mins for them to rebuild everything...coat the windings, replace the regulator, and paint the dang thing.

I will buy another old OE piece and have it rebuilt and stored for a spare just in case.

I had mine rebuilt locally 2 yrs ago and had it crap out within a year, and had it rebuilt again. Looking at the replacement parts put in there, they were cheap Chinese aftermarket internals. Just a point of reference as I thought I was getting a better quality part and it did not last very long either. Next time, I go for the lifetime warranty NAPA one if I don't track down a NOS Ford unit.

Nah, your local place didn't do it right. My local place is run by a 90yr old man that's been doing it forever. The NOS alternator I bought from SHO Source he pointed out immediately that it was NOT a new old stock piece at all but a reman. I bought it specifically because it was sold as NEW old stock and not reman.

I trust the old man. No hard feeling to SHO Source of course.

Send me your alternator and I'll have it rebuilt here and ship back! Shipping both ways and the rebuild will still be less than what you'll spend locally.

I'll keep that in mind. I got rid of that car a few months ago and picked up another GenII.
