111 System Pass
211 PIP circuit fault.
214 CID circuit failure.
542 Fuel pump secondary circuit failure.

538 Operator failure (I can't seem to run the cylinder balance tests for some reason. doh. I'll have to try again sometime.)

If any of you read my post from yesterday you know where I'm at. My car runs like butt sometimes - like only half the engine is firing. Bucks like a rodeo. But when its not doing that, it runs great. Keep in mind my tach works fine during all this - the only time it didn't was for a few seconds right after I started my engine once...I've searched through the forums and I'm gonna check all my grounds today. After that, I guess the camshaft position sensor? Then the crank sensor if that dosent fix it... I need to get well aquainted with my engine anyway  :p

Any thoughts? Similar experiences?

Thanks for readin

Oh yeah, I can't get enough of this guy.. burn_out

I have got the same 542 code...

do you ever notice a slight surge in the car at a certain speed? kinda like the engine isn't getting enough fuel...haven't had the chance to track the problem down yet...

It think the 542 code is stored anytime the engine stalls. Even if it was just from starting out in the wrong gear and killing the motor.

I'm thinking that's a good idea. Unhook the battery, drain the juice, replace the cam sensor (Wells F134-from Autozone $30) reset the 'puter and take it from there.

The 211 code is generated by a failed signal from the crankshaft position sensor and that failure will usually result in a cut out of the fuel pump. Did your engine cut out? That would be from a failing CPS. Expect more. Did it have trouble starting? That was from a failing CID (cam) sensor. Excpect some ugly starting. Or they could both be the result of a bad DIS module. Check the DIS ground and connections. If you try a new or temporarily borrowed DIS and the engine is still hard to start or dies, you have some sensors to replace.

It's never died on me thankfully. Just ran like ****. But there was that one time the tach didn't respond at all for a few seconds. I checked the grounds and they all feel pretty tight. I'll recheck the connections tomorrow - if that dosent help I'll cough up the loot & time for a camshaft sensor. Hopefully the easy one will cure me for a bit. Gonna have to do a 60k service soon anyway - I'll do the crankshaft sensor then.
Thanks for the input!

From your explainations and your codes you definately have a faulty Camshaft Position Sensor. Let us know how the replacment works out for ya.

Just to let you peeps know, yesterday I replaced my camshaft sensor (like $44 after tax @ NAPA..all the dealers around here wanted $100!) and everything seems real cool now. It even idles smoother. No more rodeo-bucking SHO. It wasn't too hard, although I did drop my socket waay down in the engine bay. That was fun. On to my next service!

I'm starting to think I need to get rid of both slo wagons, rather than one and get another SHO. This way I can play musical engine sensors every time one of them starts acting up. Maybe I can find one in the boneyard and strip every sensor off of it.

BTW, has anyone ever done a sho transplant to a slo? Maybe I could do it to one of my wagons. Seems like there are lots of sho drivetrains out there just lookin' for a good home. How much trouble would it be? I would guess that the hardest part would be the clutch pedal install. Would it also require changing the whole front subframe?

Pete c, it's been done a few times. If you don't want to install a clutch pedal you could always go with the auto tranny.

no fahkin way in **** am I gonna try my luck with a POS ford AXOD. I don't care if doug lewis personally rebuilds it and puts it in the car. I just see too much trouble with'em. Besides, who wants to let that damn computer chip have all the fun deciding when to shift.

Although the more I ride shotgun wit the OL and her kenworth shift points, the more I want to reconsider. Does anyone else's wife here think that 1300 is a perfectly good shift point for the 3rd to 4th shift going up hill? I can just here the poor little clevite rod bearing I just installed grimacing.
