Ran codes...what do they mean??

Well I have a hard starting problem on my 93 atx, And I believe it is a fuel problem. Sometimes will flood itself, only way to start is to put gas pedal to the floor to shut off fuel supply.

I ran the codes and I got current:

551 - Problem in Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) solenoid/circuit

Stored codes:

336 - PFE sensor signal is/was was high

Went to run codes with car running, but it died. frown

I believe the only way to trip a 551 is to unplug the IMRC.

As for the DPFE code, try cleaning the intake manifold first, especially the EGR passages. If that does not take care of it, the DPFE is probably bad and in need of replacement.

As for the hard starting problem, the DPFE may have some effect on starting (I have heard the computer uses it the way a MTX computer uses the BAP). I would get the codes eliminated first and then if the problem still exists we can further diagnose it.

I got this code in the middle of a roadtrip on the way back from Chicago. MO-Kan SHO was with me and we pulled over to check the codes. Being a smart SHO driver, he had brought a printed list of the codes with him. It pulled up a 551 and I called up midwest mikey to ask him "what the **** does this mean?" His answer was as long as the secondaries work, there shouldn't be any problems. So do you know if you secondaries are working?

I believe if you turn the key to the on position you should see the butterflies move just a smidge...I think with the hood open you can even see the front bank from inside the car. I'm sure someone can chime in with more info but this is my experience with a 551.
