How do I get intermittent wipers? Rain sensing wipers are horrible. They barely detect rain, even on the max setting.

They work fine in real rain but in light mists they do not know when to trigger the wipers. Ford should have included an intermittent setting along with rain sensing like all car manufacturers do.

Mine sucks too. I'm with you on the misting and light rain where it blocks a good view and they don't come on like I feel they should. I thought it was just because it hardly sees rain. I don't remember them being like that when I drove the test "mules" back in June 2009. All I know is I don't care for them either bro.

The rain sensor is the thing that looks like a camera lens right?

I'm with you. I hate it too. Can't I be the one to determine how often they wipe? While you at it... take the auto high beams away too.

That's why I didn't get them. I had them on my last BMW and they sucked on it too. Rain sensing wipers are a dumb idea anyway, I mean, how hard is it to turn them on? It's not like I'm going to forget to use them when it rains! WTF?! I can't see anymore! What do I do?!

At first I thought, hey these are pretty cool, but now that I have lived with them I don't care for them either. Seems like they are either not coming on when I want them too, or they come on at a ridiculously high speed and won't slow down! I don't understand because in some other rainy conditions (25% of the time) they seem to work just fine, jury is out for me but I sure wish there was a switch to turn them off with so I could revert back to manual control.

Auto high beams can be shut off in the options menu???

I wonder if there is a fuse we can pull for the rain sensor and the computer will default back to intermittent..

Back when my windshield and rain sensor got smashed, I had the windshield repaced but not the rain sensor. It was also broke, but didn't know it. It caused complete loss of intermitent wipers altogether. My guess is a fuse would do the same thing.

I did not know you can turn off the uto high beams. I will try that. Today I drove all day in the pouring rain. The wipers actually worked well for me.

Forgive my ignorance, and I have not read the Manual on this, but.........

Are the rain sensing wiper and auto high beam headlamp features part of a package I perhaps do not have???

I don't have the rear camera/active cruise control etc. etc. option and it may be included in that package but I do not seem to have either one.

My wipers work perfectly on "manual selection" as do my headlamps.

Bill, depending upon when you bought the SHO, the rain sensing wipers/autodim headlights/rear view camera should have been part of the package your recieved. Rain sensing will work in any intermittent wiper position. Rear camera works in reverse and displays on the Nav display. Autodim workws in conjunction with sensor at top right center of windshield. It is under the plastic cover behind the mirror. Guess it's you read the manual!!!!!!!!!! BTW, the rear camera is located center of the trunk spoiler.

In your Sig I see that you have the 401A package, which does not come with the rains-sensing wipers and auto high-beam headlamps. The 402A/B packages do. So having manual wipers is what you should have on yours, no worries.

What is the downside with the auto high beams? Do they come on when their not supposed to?

Thanks to Bob and Typhoon both.

I am now saved from having to read the manual.

Kind of begs a question, though.

Mine is an early build, purchased on 04 November.
At some point in time, the package with the rear camera, auto wipers, lights etc. became standard equipment on all SHO vehicles as I recall.

I don't know if the MSRP was changed to reflect this or if it was just included in the original MSRP.

Seems to me if the price were not raised to reflect this additional equipment, I would have a legitimate gripe with FOMOCO and should ask for some sort of compensation.

Yes, and people with SHOs from the 90s should ***** to Ford saying they had no idea 2010 SHOs would exist, and demand compensation, right?

You can usually find most answers on Ford's media site quickly (2010 Taurus SHO Media Page), without having to hurt yourself opening the manual ;):beep:

I checked Ford's build and price site and only the rear view camera became standard. The auto wipers and high-beams are still included only in the 402B package. I also noticed that the 402 package is $200 cheaper now, but that's because that got baked into the base MSRP with the addition of the standard rear view camera.

Job #2 Taurus SEL 202B, All Limited and All SHO got a "standard
backup camera. But no other features.

Standard is in quotation marks, because MSRP also was raised by around 600 dollars.

I ordered before the price increase but got a job #2 car. My dealer filed for price protection, so I basically got the camera for free.

This happened with the Marauders in 2003. When they went to Job #2, the cars lost: remote fuel door release, automatic parking brake release, dash clock, and the full size spare tire. In exchange, the cars got Electronic Traction Control, a Donut, adjustable pedals, and a manual gas door, and the clock integrated as part of the radio.

Thanks to all for your comments, and I deserve the knocks, I forgot to put in the smilies as I was only half serious.

Nice to know the price was adjusted for the rear camera.

Regarding the handbook (s). I got so many with the car they had to give me another holder/folder. When I worked for Volvo and SAAB, I used to collect owners manuals and in the sixties/ thru early nineties, they were one small book. How times have changed.
