I have a 2010 SHO. On two occasions, I have experienced overheating while idling. The problem seems to be intermittent. I believe this is being caused by one of the radiator fans not working correctly. I have noticed that the fan on the driver side seems to be running normal. The fan on the passenger side seems to be sluggish. In fact, the other day I reached down and gabbed the fan and it stopped spinning. Any idea why one fan works normally and other does not?

Just double checking here - have you recently changed the coolant? Could just be a bad fan - if you have Forscan you could see if you are logging any errors.

I am having the same problem with my 2010 sho. So far, I checked the fan by running a wire from the battery to the fan. It worked fine, it actually spun fast. I replaced the fan control module and it is still doing the same sluggish spin or it would stop. I have read somewhere that the problem could be the cylinder head temperature sensor or wiring to the sensor. That involves taking off the lower intake to get to it. I have not done it yet but I would like to know if anyone has done this and how difficult is it?

Ok guys, just to follow up. The sluggish fan is a bad fan. Both fans work together when the a/c is switched on. So if one is slow and the other isn't, change the fan. I changed my double fan and it made a world of difference, I can even feel the difference in performance because the engine is running at a cooler operating temperature. It took me a while to figure this out but at least the problem is solved.

The 2010-2012 fan models are a PIA whenever one is bad (at times) the whole fan assembly has to be replaced. For 2013-2019 models when a fan fails it’s possible to fix it by replacing the clutches.

I wish SPAL had a drop-in, PCM controlled upgrade so people living in real HOT climates can have a little peace of mind. OEM fans are noisy already so bring on the SPAL noise.

Don't know about others but, with a OEM thermostat my car consistently runs @178-181. If idling with a/c off fan comes on at @212, goes off at @205

Ok cause I’m sitting around 205 to 218 after swapping in fans and T-stat used to be like 188-198

I have a 170 degree tstat, I am sitting under 190-200, even here in S Fla. Though the car is also tuned, can't say if tuner moded my temps.

I think I am airlocked rn cause today I spiked up to 239 and dropped all the way down to 190 and I passed a block test but tommorow I’m retesting and vacuuming the lines and doing fresh fresh coolant

Have you drained the system completely? What condition is the coolant in? These radiators can spring very small leaks that will clog the leaks, however cause a radiator blockage. Time to pull it out and look it over - if not get it pressure tested, replace.

My gut tells me you have a clogged radiator either internally or externally they can clog with dust and road debris. See the video go 8:25 in

usually the engine fan / passenger side goes first. a lot of short cycles with oem programming.

Thanks for pointing me in another direction had never had that happen before at my shop so it never occurred to me to try doing that. Doing a full coolant flush today then putting it under vacuum to test for leaks

Drain it at the radiator petcock, get it all out and look it over.

Found the most likely source of the problem the vent hose plastic had a hairline crack and under pressure was spewing air. So while it’s running was sucking air and losing microscopic amounts of coolant
