My fan no longer comes on. The ECT is only a year or so old. The forum says the switch is located under the fan shroud in the "metal box", which I gather is the CCRM or ICRM.

But how do I get at the switch or do I have to replace the entire CCRM, which I replaced about 1 year ago.

So much for refurbished parts.

I believe for my model year, the CCRM has to have an "M" on it.

Thanks in advance.

The CCRM/IRCM for all intents and purposes is not serviceable and should just be replaced when bad.

Start by disconnecting your ECT sensor with the car running. If the fan comes on, then the switch in the CCRM is fine and the ECT is most likely the culprit. If not, then the CCRM is most likely the problem. More rare but not impossible is you could also have a dead fan motor so if disconnecting the ECT changes nothing, you should try powering the fan directly to make sure the motor is good before replacing the CCRM.

The CCRM in my '89 has been acting up for YEARS. But as much as I drive it in town, it doesnt cause any problems.

On the highway it stays cool.

In town, if I see the temps creeping up, I just hit the DEFROST, and the fan kicks on :laugh_ti:

You were right. the CCRM was no good. Only 6 months old. Put back the prior one which I thought was defective and causing another problem.

Thanks.

You know when ever i read these threads I wish for photos of these ECT's CCRM's etc. It takes me an hour to figure out what each of the acronyms stands for then where the **** the thing is....

So, I'm having the fan not turning on problem with mine and what to know what the ECT is, and what the CCRM is and where the **** do they exist on the car? Thanks....

ECT - Electronic Control.....something?
CCRM- some kind of module?
