If the speaker itself is loose it could cause a rattle. Check the screws that hold it in place in the bracket. It's hard to tell exactly where the rattle is coming from by your description...give us a little more details.

Can you hear it when you open the trunk? Just when the system is on? Can you hear it when the car is sitting still or in motion?

im guessing rear.... just b/c i have the same problem and i think its commmon to Gen 1s running aftermarket speakers.
