I think my 92 needs a rack. The pump moans when I steer either way but not when the wheel is straight. It also spits fluid out of the reservoir if I turn the wheel quickly from lock to lock.
Is this the rack or the pump or the VAPS?
If it's the pump, that's fine...I have a spare.
The steering effort is a lot higher than my other SHO which has a rebuilt cardone rack that I installed a few months ago. It also has less travel than the rebuilt one, so I know it's a SHO specific rack. It does not seem as though the steering effort ever changes, so I'm inclined to think that the VAPS is not working. If the VAPS is not working, it's stuck on "low".
It seems to me, that if my VAPS is stuck on "low" it might cause my other symptoms.
From my understanding of the shotimes article regarding VAPS, it IS possible for it to be stuck on low.
Will it throw a code if the VAPS is not responding?
Does anyone have a lead on a SHO specific rebuilt rack? The cardone units seem different to me(I've installed a few and I think they are regular Sable racks).
