So ever since I bought the car I've had this problem of a winning power steering. And if you hold the wheel in one positions wail turning you get this pulling back and forth on the wheel about an inch.

Well now that inch is 4-5 inches and when going about 45 and up it feels like I have a NO power steering at all. I'm not losing any fluid, at least not very fast at all, and its fairly fresh fluid.

I know SOMETHING/everything is shot, but I'm not sure which to change first. If you need any more information at all just let me know. Something needs to be done.

What year is the SHO and how many miles are on it?

IMHO, after just replacing my rack, it sounds like a rack issue. But, it also could be a combination of a bad rack and a bad pump...

It is a 95 with 58k miles on it.
To check the rack do I just jack up the car and see if the wheel moves back and forth? Or do I disconnect it and try to move it independently?

Wow, that is low miles to have such issues. From the sounds of it I would change the rack, but that is just my opinion from previous experience in my SHO.

I was thinking about and mentioned "is there any slack in the rack" and that wouldnt neccessarily cause the problems you decribed. I dont know why I said that. I would still say the rack is the problem. Does anyone know where the pressure relief valve is located in these systems?

Any suggestions on the best place to buy a rack? I was just going to go up to advance auto parts.

Advance is just as good as anybody else. The only people I have seen redo these racks is A1 Cardone. Make sure you get the 22225 rack and not the 22214 rack. The 22225 rack is the VAPS rack which your '95 has, the 22214 rack is a non-VAPS rack, and you don't want to have the car that far apart and realize you have the wrong part....trust me.

That looks to be the correct one, well at least that is what the AZ computers say. I have no experience with that brand, but looks like it will work.

Found one threw Napa, Part number is NRP22225. That's the one your were talking about right?

The pulsating feedback is from the rack itself.

The whining noise is due to air in the PS system. It is causing the pump impeller to cavitate which causes the noise.

Mine, at one time, sounded like I had a supercharger under the hood. (I wish!) It was necessary to use the more aggressive vacuum purge method to correct.

Steve, could you elaborate on the first point, because I am very curious, and the second because I cannot get air out of my system.
