So last night on way home from work I found myself behind a Challenger SRT8 - probably a year or 2 old. We turn left onto a highway and he gets on it - I can tell by just the sound it's not stock. I know the SRT8 already is powerful and sounds bad with the V8, but this was "modded," loud. I punch it to get behind him but he pulled pretty good on me. He slows down and I get up next to him and he's looking over a lot. I hear him downshift so I know what's next!

We go and I'm in Sport mode, 3rd gear from about 45 or 50mph - wasn't paying attention to the speed all I know is the car wouldn't let me go into 2nd gear so I was in 3rd with high RPMs. We're even for about ONE second and he pulls to about 2-3 car lengths ahead! We get next to each other and roll the windows down - he says he has 500 HP at THE WHEELS! I know from the factory they come with 470 HP at the crank so what in the world could he have done to get this much power? He looked young so I know he couldn't afford to throw like $20k into it! I didn't hear any whine noise so I know it wasn't a supercharger so what else could be done that's not major?

He did say he liked my car and surprised how fast it was - but I didn't think it was fast how bad he jumped on me! I've seen videos of our SHOs racing these cars and beating them pretty good before the V8 power catches up and passes the SHO. But I never had a chance - I want to find him tonight and try a "Dig Race!"

*DISCLAIMER: this was a wide open highway road, posted speed is 65mph and it's on the very west side of the city with no homes, schools, businesses, just highway, NO traffic around us and there's a cement barrier separating the East / West traffic. It wasn't reckless street racing at all! 2 runs from about 45/50 to 70.

About your disclaimer, doesn't matter how empty the road is, it's still reckless driving. Don't take it as a rebuke, as I drive recklessly nearly everyday. Just wanted to clarify that you're still breaking the law, regardless of the conditions.

As to cars to challenge, I'd probably only take on an M3 or Lexus is350. Those are more comparable to the SHO. (I personally like to shut down the old 5.0 Mustangs. We got a ton of Mustang drivers who like to street race.)

We have an 06 srt8 with just an intake for mods. It ran 13.46 at this year's convention.
These are rated at 425 hp 420 torque stock.

6.4 is badass. the sho compares more with the charger r/t really then a 2013+ camaro ss and srt variants. Ive seen many shos beat the srts in youtube videos but most of the time it was 2008-2012 ones and the newer ones are considerably faster. I should hope a 3.5 tt couldnt out perform that much displacement.

My SHO stock runs 13.5! I have a bunch of mods such as LME 93 tune - now I should be around 12.8 or something. I just hoped it would be closer race. Time to trade for an Audi S6 with APR tune now!!!

If I had the money I would as my weekend toy!! But I need a 4-door family sedan with power/speed - kind of a 2-in-one car that can daily commute but then beat that SRT8!
That's why kit cars exist ... if you are up to it :D

Naw, it's just that in an inpromptu street race, that Dodge has the advantage of cubic inches that translates to instantly available torque. That's why he got 3 lengths on you while the SHO's turbo was getting to work.

The only thing I've noticed on my '14 is a short lag - meaning I go WOT and it doesn't do anything for a half second sometimes. I think it's bc there's no actual linkage between gas pedal and throttle - all electrical sensors.

Grossly apparent when stock.
