I've got the Team Dynamics 17" racing wheels with 225/45 BF Goodrich KDW's. I have have been greatly impressed with the performance of this setup. I think tire and wheel together only weighed about 27 lbs. And those tires are awesome!! They have a treadwear of 300 which means they won't wear as fast. They handle great in wet conditions. But on dry pavement is where they stand above the rest. I've taken 30 mph on ramps at 70mph with only minimal tire squall. NO KIDDING!! DON'T TRY THIS WITH STOCK SUSPENSION THOUGH!!!!

Those are my suggestions for what they're worth.

ok, i think you need to re-weigh your wheel/tire combo. i have 17" team dynamics with 235 BFG comp ZRs and they weigh a lot more then 27 pounds, the 17" team dynamics weigh in at 22 pounds without a tire. so either BFG is a miracle worker and made a 5 pound 17" tire, or you just forgot how much they weigh. it should be closer to the 35-40 pound range.

Just to clarify, I was talking about the STS class, and as such was specifically talking street tires.

What ThrillSHO said about race tires and larger diameters is correct - you don't have many choices (any, in some cases) for 17" and 18" slicks.

Te maximum wheel width in STS is 7.5" and the maximum tire width is 225mm, and coincidentally that is the optimum combination to run.

We hate you MTX guys that get to run in STS

while us ATX guys are forced to run in SM just because we are 100cc over the engine displacement limit. At least we get to run race rubber instead of street.

That does stink. There just isn't any competition in SM at the events I've been to (Milwaukee region and Akron/Cleveland region). Maybe one or two SM cars show up.

I like the "arrive and drive" atmosphere of STS. I get there, tech, empty the car and adjust the tire pressure and I'm ready to walk the course. I got sick of changing tires at 7:00 in the morning

SM is pretty popular down here in the carolinas. I was just checking the pre-registration list for our first event ( still a month away). The field is only half full and we have 8 of us in SM. We normally see at least 12. It has definately grown in 2 years.

BTW: I'm gonna be in the NE area first weekend in May lookin for an autocross.
