Is there a ground strap on the 1992 SHO ?
I cant find any trace of one being on there when I took this car apart. I could be wrong and might of set it aside with stud bolt and its laying in a tote ,box, drawer or gardner blew it away and bolt is in the rocks Im working over. If this wire is missing how does it work and where can I find a pic of set up. Please Help ASAP I am one ground strap away from firing it up. Can I turn over with out pipe on manifold real quick.

The ground strap.

The ground location on the firewall.

Where it grounds on the back of the intake.

The stud that holds the ground strap in place on the intake.

Hope this helps. Sorry the engine bay is so nasty. Definitely needs some TLC soon. lol

Nice pics, NP! It gets kind of tight back there on the rear of the intake trying to re-attach that strap to the stud and get it threaded back in. On my 90, I got sick of dealing with it, so I grounded the strap to the dampener bracket on the strut tower.

Chris, hopefully you'll check this thread soon....I saw you posted on my FB wall, so I took a pic of the ground strap and sent it to you. NP's is a little better pic though.

The camera on my phone is pretty decent. I just know it helps me out a ton being able to see things instead of have them described to me. Hopefully it'll help the OP too.

No problem bro. Always glad to help out. The ground strap is required. The car won't run correctly without that strap. As far as I know it doesn't have to be that specific strap, though. You should be able to make your own if you can't find the original.

Wait...I'm assuming you had this car and it ran and drove fine at first, you did the work, now it won't start, right? You didn't buy this car "non-running" did you? I mean, it had to run before. I don't see why one would completely remove and discard the grounding strap (maybe they took the end opposite to the firewall and grounded it elsewhere...but it should still be there somewhere).....let us know what you come up with...that's like someone throwing away the coolant reservoir bottle---you just don't do that and can't do that.

I made a new cable from one of the upper/middle bolts that holds the crossover tube on over to the strut tower area, makes removal faster..... it really is just a back-up though given how if something loses connection the motor shuts off.

all your basically doing is supplying a ground to the DIS module so it operates properly. A properly put together SHO intake manifold has the cross over tube bolted to the rest of the intake in multiple spots. Which then bolts to the heads, which then bolts to the block, which then is routed through the main ground wire to one of the starter bolts(atleast thats how my car is)

cliff notes: if your SHO has all the brackets and bolts holding the crossover tube onto the intake plenums, then you don't need any other stinking ground straps on the intake manifold. The engine is already grounded at the starter to the battery, if your DIS has no ground signal with this method, you need not worry because your starter won't turn over either.....

So I replaced the strap with regular ground wire and it turned over right away first time sence putting back together but seems my timing belt might of took a crap it backed fired so im now at TDC and going to check belt to see if the marks line up. Im sure am learning alot about the 1992 SHO. Wish I could get my hands on a BIBLE for the 1992 SHO, that would be heaven sent

Glad you got the ground strap taking care of. What else do you have to do after fixing the timing issue? Is it done after that? I'd be itching to go out and beat the snot out of it. lol

You can easily find shop manuals on Ebay. I have a 90 and 95 Taurus manual and yes, they are a God-send, as well as this forum.

SHO Fourm.com is God sent

This is an understatement I would be lost without it. Other mechanics think they know how to fix these cars and act like there just like any other car I have hard time explaining there wrong when it come to the SHO. So thats why I am the only one who works on it plus money is hard to come buy these days
I have long way before Im able to beat this car up need new CATS,Back Brakes, and transaxcle seal then its on
:salute::thankyou::pray::urock::rockon::zoom:
