I just installed my rear SHONUT motor mount. It took almost 5 hours. The old one came out and the new one went in in about 30 minutes. My friends and I spent about 4 hours trying to line up the two bolt holes with no success!! So by 11:30 last night we gave up on it and just got the one top bolt in and the bottom nut on and I drove home. My question is is it ok to drive around with only 2 of the 3 bolts/nut in?

Thanks.

Uh no, not a good idea. You will need to play with lifting and lowering the engine a little to get it to line up.

With one bolt connecting the motor and mount, jack the motor up enough so the bottom stud on the mount clears the subframe. Insert the remaining bolt to connect the motor and mount. Then lower the whole motor and mount down onto the subframe.

Guys, we were doing that. And we could only get one of the bolt holes to line up. The other one is literally millimeters off but it wont go in. We were lifting the motor, the mount everything.

Did you remove the nut on the front motor mount so that the entire motor can be lifted up? There is no way you cannot put both bolts in when the mount is clear of the subframe.

Chris, I actually thought about doing that while we were struggling with the bolt hole, but of course I never tried it. I'll be sure to when I try to get the other bolt in.

For anyone who has both Front and Rear reinforced mounts; how much more noise and vibration did you get. When I start the car it's a lot more rough and there's a lot more vibration when driving. It doesnt bother me I just want to know if it's normal.

sunny San Juan Bautista,
I recently installed front and rear motor mounts reinforced by Kirk Doucette. I noticed the same thing. Can hear many more flaws in my motor. At idle she sounds like a V8. Could be my exhaust parts got shifted around while doing all the jacking.

I have noticed that it's settled down somewhat. Either that or I'm just getting used to it. But in the beginning I was wondering if I somehow screwed up my installation.

I spent about 3 hours underneath the '93 trying to line up the mounts when we were **** the motor swap and you're right, the rear always seems to be a huge PITA. I finally gave up on threading the bolts through the bracket, into the mount, and back out the other side of the bracket. I just cranked the motor back up (it was on an engine hoist, which made it even more difficult because you can never tell if you're centered in the exact spot you need to be...), removed the bracket from the subframe, easily threaded the mount in place inside the bracket, lowered the motor, and bolted the bracket complete with mount, back into the subframe. Just make sure you're torquing everything down right if you do it this way! But it made my life MUCH easier and after thinking of that (DUH!) I got it done in about 15 mins. Good luck!

with my new shonut mounts there is certainly more shake felt when cranking, but haven't noticed much change when driving (although I like the increased engine 'feel').
