Hey all,

A month or so ago I got in a little fender bender. I a-holed a car at like 15mph and now my hood is crunched a little. I've decided at this point that I want to put a fiberglass hood on it. BUT the only hood I can find has a cowl (which I hate) so I've decided to make my own. I need a mold for this application (aka hood) and was just wondering if the standard Taurus hood is the same as the sho's. BTW the local ford dealer want's $1300 to fix my hood! I can make a fiberglass hood for $250!!!!

Thanks

Mike

What a rip off!!
The SHO hood is NOT the same as the regular Taurus. Ford charges almost double for it.
I can get a new one for you from Ford for about $650.
Or you can call Greenleaf at 206-483-1212 in Woodinville WA for a new SHO hood, they are new genuine Ford parts as Ford owned Greenleaf until recently and are dumping the new parts. I got a NEW Ford SHO hood for $260.00 plus shipping!!!! Get one!!!

What year is the car? The stock SHO hood is not the same as the stock Taurus hood. At least for GenI SHO's.

Same with a Gen 2. The outside skin is the same as a sable, but the bracing underneath is different, I believe. If you use the Gen 2 Tuaurs hood on a SHO, you run in to trouble with the underhood bracing.

For this project I think a SLO hood will be fine since the bracing on a fiberglass hood is much different. Also, the SLO hood has that slight indentation in the middle, which actually matches the SHO bumper pretty well. I'd like to see how it turns out. If you could sell them for $250-$300 that is definately worth it for the weight savings alone.

Make them and sell them! Great little business! For $300 I could be persuaded to buy a sub 15lbs hood(If they were that light wink ).
