What is the bolt size (length/thread pitch) of this bolt? Anyone know off the top of their head? It holds the ATX timing belt tensioner pulley to the motor.

It's a stud.
I have one at home if you need it. I do not know the thread...guessing would provide 80% accuracy....

m10 1.50.

I THINK both ends are threaded the same. I KNOW that the center is unthreaded.

I might need it. I'm going to see if I can find a hardware store that has something, if not we'll have to come visit you. John's car is broken down on the side of the road and this stud is snapped off. I'm at home so I'm doing as much leg work as possible before I leave for the rescue.

P.S. I meant to say stud.....darn brain is in overdrive right now unlike his car. :frown:

I called Ford and all he could give me was the part number, not a single dealer "from sea to shining sea" has one nor does Green Sales.

I dunno, I had a spare one in the parts motor. We weren't able to get the broken part of the stud out of the motor though so the tow truck came and got his car and hauled it off to a local place to have the stud removed. Once we get that done he and I will put the timing stuff back in place.

Still good to have your number though. I had lost that when my other phone was stolen.

I'm not sure exactly. The best I can figure is that perhaps it had started to back out and the pressure from the timing belt caused the whole assembly to crank down on the stud at an angle and eventually it sheered off. I don't know anything for certain.

Make sure the new one is loc-tited in. I would assume that if the old one was broken off in there, that the threads on the block are no longer "perfect".

We did, but there is no good news for this motor. The weld that Marcel did on it last year to mend the crank cancer has broken and the crank gear is walking on the woodruff key and crank again. We put it all back together today after the shop got the old stud out and drove it home. I doubt he'll drive it again unless we are able to swap the motor in it.

At least it's at home now. He got over a year's worth of driving out of it after we found it had crank cancer so I guess we can't ask for much more. To my knowledge it was the longest lasting crank cancer repair to date. Even still, I'm sad. :frown:

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure that you can find a motor for pretty cheap. And you have recent (convention) experience in swapping motors so it may not take too long.

What would you need to fix THAT engine...a crank? It IS possible to swap a crank "in car" but the trans has to come out(or at least be moved out of the way of the rear crank seal carrier plate).

I think this should be the next meet. I will have possession of my new house in about a week(maybe two). We could do it there. That would give you time to find a crank/gear/pulley/bearingsfront&rear seals and organize the SHOforum Forces.

We have a spare 3.2 in the garage that we bought last year when we first found out the car had crank cancer. We didn't anticipate having it welded and it actually working for as long as it did, so at least that part is covered.

As for what it would take to fix the engine that's in it....I really don't know. I would imagine that we could try to weld it again, maybe placing more tacks than originally done? I really don't know. I don't think a crank could be swapped "in car" though.

As for motor swap, it'll be little different doing an ATX, but first things must come first as usual. The spare motor would need to have the rod bearings replaced and a 60k done in it since all that would be so much easier with the motor on a stand rather than being in the car.

So...the game plan for now is to get him temporary transportation and let the 95 sit. We may end up just parting the car, I really don't know at this point whether he really wants to go through with the motor swap or not. I know I don't feel like doing a motor swap on it, that much is certain.

Time will tell and I'll update as I know more.

Damn that sucks, I didn't think those welds would ever break. There must be other forces at work here to be causing all this damage.

Yeah, I have to agree. It's just been one thing after the next with that car. Hand over fist shucking out the $$.
