well i got a question on the trans axles my 98 se v6 24 valve trans axle is the same numbers as on the one in the SHO i have and i was wondering will they interchange??? because mine i think is gettting problems in the sho my wife and i have heard it a few times is a clicking nosie from time to time and the other day i got a loud clunk sound when i put it in reverse in a parking lot and yes i was completly stopped. so i went and took out the right axle thinking that was the problem and she still feels real tight i just replaced the left side. so i am a little lost here the subframe bushings look okay, second i have some play in the wheel when i have it jacked up in the air i can almost rotate it a 1/4 of a turn before it stops.

i know around here advance and napa list the 3.0 durtec axles for the sho and they look alot different. the inner cup is a lot smaller and different design. and autozone said they can not get it. so i went to oriellys and order a new A1 cardone axle this is the same as on the other side.

but if them transaxles are the same then i can get the one redone or just swap them out and get the one in the sho redone either or. oh do they make shift kit for them transaxles also.

I have my 98 Ford Taurus Shop manual and it indicates the SHO and NON-SHO halfshafts are different... It also indicates that the Non-SHO version have two different assemblies for each side... It doesn't look like the SHO have different units for each side. As for the wheel turning when it is jacked up... you should be able so spin the steering wheel freely with no resistance when the wheels are off the ground... If you are talking about the front wheels spinning, they should even, in park... not too sure what you are talking about with the wheel spinning 1/4 turn before it stops...

The inner CV joint is the difference on the NON-SHO types... Pass side has a male end, and the Driver side has a female end... ***I just found that the SHO has the same female/male (DS/PS) inner CV joints!! Sorry for the error!***

I believe they do make a shift kit for these trans'... I don't know for sure! I don't have one in mine...

Best wishes!
