Hello All-

I recently purchased a 2013 SHO with 67xxx miles on it. While changing the spark plugs i noticed a large amount of oil in cylinder 2. I brought the car into a garage for further investigation and it turns out this vehicle needs a valve cover gasket and pcv valve. They checked the warranty history of the car and it seems like the gasket has been replaced twice already. However, the shop never changed the PCV valve.

Has anyone else experienced this type of leak?

Fairly common issue on the 2013+ in particular. When were the VCG's replaced? Redesigned valve covers (with redesigned oil separators) have been available for some time now to help address PCV related issues. If the VC looks dark/black, it is the newer style composite material rather than aluminum. A clogged PCV valve will increase crankcase pressures, which will then find a weak spot to blow through.

I will have to check them out to see if they are the newer version. From the limited info I got the dealer just kept replacing the gasket. Should I look into purchasing these with oil separators?

My warranty is up which sucks. maybe I should buy a extended warranty :)

Also one of those catch can things would help as well wouldn't it? Even though some people say they are not needed....

I dont know if the new separator will fit on the old valve cover :( As for catch cans, if you see a decent amt of oil pooling in the turbo intake tubes or in the intercooler, might be worth it. Percentage wise, its not really a problem on the SHO. But it could also help keep carbon from building up on the back of the intake valves. No data on that though.

An extended warranty is a good idea on these cars from what I have seen. Between electronics, turbos, and the PTU ...

Carbon buildup and oil in the turbo intake tubes/intercooler are really to different areas. Carbon buildup on the valves comes from regular PCV operation and the air/oil vapor going directly into the intake manifold from the dirty side of the PCV system. Oil in the turbo intake tubes/intercooler is from operating under boost and air/oil vapor being forced out the clean side of the PCV system.

What it boils down to is you will either have to get two separators (one clean side and one dirty side) or there is one company (don't remember who) that makes a single separator for the SHO for both the clean and dirty sides of the PCV system.
