Ok, so i hardly ever use my radio but since someone jacked my ipod ive been listening to the radio more. Mainly my question is about why i might be getting poor reception with it, i used to get great reception with my radio when i had my crappy dual deck that i bought my car with and ever since i installed this alpine deck the reception is pretty much horrible and hardly picks up stations that are within 50 miles.

Did the antennae cable that plugs into the back of your radio have a 90º bend in it? Sometimes you have to bend the 90º angle straight for it insert completely into an aftermarket HU.

How is the AM reception? If the FM stations are bad and AM is good, then there's a good chance you have a bad tuner.

Do you have a multimeter? You can check the resistance of the antenna.

Unplug the antenna and measure the the resistance from the outer sleeve that plugs into the radio to the body (not a metal bracket). The resistance should be less than 0.5 ohms. Then check the resistance from the mast to the center pin. It should also be less than 0.5 ohms. Also make sure the ground connections are clean.

Probably the easiest way to test an antenna is hook up a test antenna, if you have access to any.
