OK, so this may be a dumb question, but for the life of me i cannot remember the answer. i was pulling some shims the other day to inspect their appearance and determine if i could flip them or if i need to replace them all. the factory markings on the shim have a 4 digit number, but is there also a dot in the center? just a small inked dot? i was fairly sure the 60k had never been done to my car but i couldnt tell if the dot was from wear or from the factory. any help is appreciated. thanks!

FYI, as factory shims become more & more scarce, the aftermarket shims will usually come in a different number marking scheme.

Example:
Factory: 2450
Aftermarket: 2-45

i will keep that in mind, thanks. like i said though im 99.9999% sure these are all factory and have never been flipped or anything.

Ishodu:
That dot is from deposits from the oil it will clean off then you can flip it.
well the dot was on the underside of the shim. still the same situation you think? the underside showed no wear that i could see. ill post a pic when i get home from work tonight if anyone wants to see. thanks again.

take a look at the bucket, notice how it has a small hole in the center of it, thats exactly where the dot on the shim comes from, like they said, it is just build up.
