Since the tranny needs to come out to replace the rear crank seal, nows the time to do it. Grease it real good so it wont burn up from a dry start.

Re flushing the trans cooler lines:

The object is to clean out the old fluid and more importantly any debre, such as pieces of metal. The metal lines can be cleaned by spraying liberal amounts of "brake clean" through them and blowing them out with compressed air. Do this several times until clear clean fluid flows out of them. The same is true for the trans cooler. The rubber trans cooler lines should be replaced with rubber lines made for automatic transmissions. Neither "fuel" line nor "vacuum" line should be used. Use rubber line made for trans fluid.

Be careful when blowing compressed air through the trans cooler in the radiator and the auxillary cooler. Over pressurizing the coolers could cause them to break at the joints (don't ask). Set you compressor for about 10 psi.
If you do not have a source of compressed air then fill the coller brake kleen and, shake it, and let the fluid drain out. Repeat this until the fluid comes out clean.

To do this with the radiator the radiator would have to be removed.
This is a very important step in protecting your new trans from fine bits of metal that would ruin it in a short time, and if you do not do this you will not be covered for the warranty.

Again, follow the installation instructions to the letter and document your steps. Pictures would also be a good idea for added documentation.

Obviously my phone inquiries were not well received. For the record:

1. PM me with a reasonable invoice for consulting services.

2. My intentions were exactly as indicated in that I was trying to make a decision whether to purchase your modified transmission and had a number of questions about what the differences are. I decided to go with the standard Ford rebuilt since I don't drive the car hard, the original tranny lasted 110K miles and I realized that I'd have more invested in the car than insurance would pay if it was totaled. I then considered having your guys install a unmodified Ford rebuilt and called a wrecker service that your guy recommended but they said that they were on call in the Douglasville area and couldn't come get it then. Since I could purchase the tranny discounted for $1500 I decided to give it a try myself plus do other things such as rear main engine oil seal, clean and undercoat the subframe, install subframe bolt recall kit, replace CV boots, front rotor/pad replacement, rod bearings plus a few other things while "down under".

3. Another thing is this car failed in my garage and as stated above needed to be towed to be worked on anywhere else. Frankly I have not had good experiences with tow truck drivers. I had one car towed several years ago and they bent some of the suspension components. Recently a relative's car was hit and had to be towed. The tow truck driver hooked on and started winching the car with it in park sliding the tires. When asked to stop until they could get in the car with the key and put it in neutral and release the parking brake, the driver told them to "mind their own f....... business" and yanked it onto his flatbed with the policeman yelling for him to stop. Sorry, but with all these factors and with it failing in the only place I could work on it which was in my garage at the top of an extremely steep driveway, I decided to give it a try.

4. However, as you would expect the job was much greater than I originally estimated and to get it back on the road I only did the tranny replacement, rear main oil seal and subframe clean/undercoat. The other items will be done at a later date.

5. My last call was to ask about the value and costs of your tranny fluid cooler modifications which I am considering but I still don't know if it would really benefit an easily driven transportation SHO that much.

6. After all is said and done, even though I'm totally satisfied with the quality of work I accomplished, I would recommend to anyone needing a new tranny, do it BEFORE it is undriveable and if they are within driving distance that they get you guys to install either your modified tranny or in the unlikely event that they drive as easily as this old guy that they have you install a standard Ford rebuilt. To do it themselves they need to build solid engine hangers, have access to a decent tranny jack and get solid jackstands. It's a long and tough job crawling under the car and hardly worth doing it yourself.

Also, for the record I was already planning on thanking you guys on this forum and recommending that SHO owners use your services. I'm certainly sorry to have offended you and imposed on you.
