Hi all,
I am installing a quaife and ran into an issue. The new ring gear bolts (actually its the very top corner of the nuts) are just barely nicking the inside of the the trans case when it spins. Have any of u had this issue? I vaguely remember someone saying something about it in a post, but I cant find anything. My plan was to take my dremel and taper the very top outside edge of the nut so it will clear the case. I, of course, would be removing a very small amount so that I would not effect the integrity of the nut. IF anyone else had this issue, how did you handle it?

This is the second install I have done and the first didnt have this issue.

Thanks

Did you put the bolts through the correct direction?
Are the bearing races fully seated into the case?
Is the diff properly shimmed?

Thanks for the ideas. Yes the cups are completely seated, the diff is shimed propertly (triple checked) and the nuts and bolts are put through the diff correctly (using Josh's intall video as a guide). I got the issue resolved. Found that it was not level on the bench, and when I would spin the diff by hand in the case half it would barely make contact with one nut. Moved it to the floor and tried it and all is well.

Just a question, what does it mean, shimming the diff?

When you replace the bearings and cups on the differential and in the case you have to select the correct service shim for behind the new cup in the case. There is a special ford tool used to select the correct shim.
