I've got a 2010 SHO with push button start. I could not get it to start no matter what I did. The lights/radio/nav all come on and it recognizes the fab but just won't start. This happened to me about a week ago a few times. Eventually I got it to start but don't know how.

This morning I tried disconnecting the battery and I checked the brake light switch which seemed to be working. I spent over an hour trying to start it. A little while ago I called a tow truck. As I was waiting I decided to try to start it again (probably about the 50th time). The first two times nothing happened but for some reason the 3rd time it started.

So it worked fine for a little over a week but today it didn't again. I think it has something to do with a sensor and the brake pedal. This morning I had the door open and I wasn't sitting down when I tried to start it. That might have been part of the issue although I used to do this all the time in the winter to let it warm up with no issues.

Are there any indications on the instrument cluster when it does start, suggesting the brake is not depressed or the key is not recognized?

The lights and everything work including the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster gave no indication anything was wrong.

Just got off the phone with Ford and they said me starter is bad already. They want $700+ to fix and won't have the part until Tuesday.

Are there any walkthroughs on putting in a starter for this car?

I have the service manual for a 2013. I take it your car is no longer under warranty?

I can pull the PDF pages and send them to you.

Here I attached the air intake removal and starter removal.

Jason

Edit - I believe I uploaded the wrong start removal at first. I loaded the correct one but due to file size limits I had to remove the air intake file

48K miles, still under powertrain warranty but the dealer said that doesn't cover the starter.

Thanks for the PDF.

Hmmm, I had a mysterious bad start issue onmy 2010 also. I called for a tow, then he had to call for a flatbed. When the second driver got there, he stuck his hand down around the starter (from the top) and wiggled a loose starter wire. He could not tighten it because it was too hard to get there, but I drove it straight to the dealer, and they had me out pretty quickly. Lets just hope yours is only a loose nut on your starter.

Now it's the battery.

A couple months later and now the battery goes bad. Just over 3 years old with 53K and I've had a bad starter, battery, rear window sunshade, transmission TSB for hard shifts, and chrome flaking and then the replacement tailights are flaking too. I think there was another issue or two that I cannot recall at the moment.

Is everyone else having issue in the first few years?

Hey how's it going...new poster, but just wanted to share the issue I had tonight. I bought my 2010 SHO AWD early last year and it's been pretty problem free. It has about 47000 miles on it now.

Tonight I went out to start the car and it wouldn't do anything...starter wise that is...it would not turn over. I had this same issue a while back at work. And then, I kinda felt that the battery didn't appear to be dead or anything, but it did the same thing. A friend of mine gave me a jump and I think it was just a coincidence that it started.

But back to tonight. I ended up changing the battery which was unsuccessful. I wasted alot of time messing around with it wondering if it was something to do with my fob.....etc. I finally decided to take a look at the starter. And sure enough, the ignition terminal was loose feeling. I wiggled it around and the car finally started. I attempted to snug up the nut on the terminal, but it actually goes beyond that. It's very difficult to see down in there, but there appears to be some sort of metal part that the terminal connects to on the back of the solenoid. This whole piece of metal is actually loose on the solenoid. I think it's only a matter of time before I have to change the starter. From reading around a little bit here and there, this is starting to look like a common problem and in my opinion, there is no reason any car with what I consider pretty low miles should have this sort of problem already.

One other problem I have every now and then. Sometimes I'll be driving along and come to a stop and when I go to take off the car doesn't move at first and then all of a sudden jerks forward.....kind of like a neutral drop. I have no idea what could be causing this...hopefully nothing major. I'm sure it could do some damage if I ever went to take off pretty fast and it happened.

Mine too has the flaking chrome on the tail lights. But anyway, sorry to ramble on...I just wanted to let ya know my experience.

Thanks for sharing, information like this is useful for current and future owners. As far as the Jerkeyness of the trans, make sure any software updates for the trans have been performed.

I had an issue on my 2011 with Performance Package (PP) that I would describe the exact same way. There were 2 Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) that my dealer implemented (at the time under warranty) which fixed the issue. One was a mechanical mod to the transmission, I think it was a valve body and new separator plate. The other was a software update to the PCM. Between the two, I have not experienced another instance of the issue over the past year or so.
