Where is the best place to buy a VSS for my 93 ATX? I have seen several references to places
on this forum in the past but could not find them by using search. How much can I expect to pay
for the VSS? If not too much I may replace to see if it improves my slow 3 to 2 down shift problem
which is worse when hot. My cruise control works OK, so the VSS may not be the problem.

I paid $55 at my local dealer here in Phoenix. The parts guys usually gives me about 15% off retail if I ask "is that your best price?" Of course I forgot to ask this time and I think that's the full retail price for a new VSS here in AZ anyway.

Get aftermarket and save yourself the extra cash. I paid 19.50 for mine aftermarket.

The VSS is responsible for a lot of things. Depending on how bad the sensor is it will or will not affect everything its signal is needed for (example: variable assist power steering, tranny shifts, crusie control). It is possible to still have your cruise working fine and at the same time screw up the shift points. When it gets really bad it affects everything at the same time. Mine was just about to that point when I replaced it. I saw it slowly, over time, start screwing up the shifting, then the steering, then eventually the cruise control. When I replaced it was like night and day. Everything came back to where it was supposed to be.

And it will most likely fix your poor 3-2 downshift problem.
