I've got oil leaking out of a bolt that attaches the pulley bracket to the engine block on my 95 atx. It's right by the lower idler pulley. Has anyone ever heard of that happening? It's leaking onto the cat and causing a nice smoke show once it warms up.

Have you torn it down? It is possible the oil is coming from behind the timing covers and just leaking out onto that bolt. Maybe a camshaft seal or the front main.

Some of those exposed bolts do hold the oil pump onto the block. I would surely hope you don't have a leak from one of those.

There is one bolt hole on the lower front side of the engine that is tapped all the way through to the oil passages. If you clean the bolt and put a little paste style pipe thread sealant on the threads and reinstall, I bet your leak goes away.

I haven't torn it down, but I've looked all around there & it doesn't seem like it's coming from the timing cover. The main seal was the first thing I thought it was when I saw that it was leaking on that side.

I'm pretty sure this would be that bolt. I gotta replace the serpentine belt anyways, so I'll put something on that bolt & see if that's it while I'm doing that.

I did not know that! I had the same problem and thought my main or cam seals were leaking, but they weren't. Thanks a bunch!! :thumb:

I thought the same thing! I put a little RTV on it & it seems to have stopped the leak & my cats are not smoking anymore after I drive it a while!
