Hey guys I just joined the club with a 2016 PP Sho.

Just took it in to my local Ford dealer for the toe link recall and asked about a PTU fluid change quote, after looking at the car they said on of the cats has to come off and quoted me $380 plus tax, seems like a really high quote especially since I have the PP.

Would a local transmission shop be more reasonable or is it just that much better to do myself?

Are you handy with a drill bit and a tap?

With a 2016 PP he should already have the drain plug, the issue comes with that pesky temp sensor in the fill hole. Took me 3 different crows foots to see it, and having the cat right there would make it really difficult to get to so I could see that... but likely they just don't want to do it haha

Remember, I have a 13 pp and you are correct about the drain plug. I still drilled and tapped mine because it is really easy and makes it really easy to drain it. Straight shot down to the pan. I never touch the stock drain or fill plugs. They are completely useless now. I added the extension hose to my vent tube for refilling. It takes me more time to add the fluid, then it does to put the car on jack stands and to drain it now.

Personally I would recommend everyone to drill and tap your PTU while adding the vent tube for the refill. It it pretty easy, and almost any shop can do it for you cheaply without removing anything.

Yeah that sounds like something I could handle, way better than $400 dollar changes haha.

They most likely just didn't want to do it, the service guy kept saying "typically non serviceable" until I insisted it had a drain plug and they could do it and they came back with that figure

@Ecoboost_xsport has a really nice set of reusable plugs for the PTU, and RDU, and Trans he sells. I have them on my SHO.

I bought this drill and tap set to install them.

https://www.amazon.com/GlowShift-NPT-Drill-Tap-Kit/dp/B00CA91AIK/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=glowshift+1/8-27+npt+drill+&+tap&qid=1605554871&sr=8-3

I use Redline Light Weight ShockProof Fluid as well. You only need 18 oz of the a 32 oz bottle.

If you have the tools, you can do it all for less then 100 dollars and couple of hours of your time.

My mechanic charges me about $40 in labor to change the fluid so I don't bother. He uses one of those vacuum fluid sucky things and built his own filling pipe to do it.
Last time I asked him to change it he said "again???"

Yea I've been tempted to go ahead and drill mine as well, mainly because the stock plug is rounded out.

Thinking about the time tools and hardware to change the p.t.u. oil per the book, I think thats a very reasonable charge.

I did a write up with pictures on my P.P. the 1st time was a little slow because I chased the threads on my turbo so it would come apart easier the next time, which it did. Surprisingly a lot of metal was on the magnet the 1st time. A little less the second time.

Good deal, wish I could find someone like that.
