First of all...is it normal for the temperature gauge to sit on the bottom bracket of the NORMAL range even at highway operating speeds? (do I need to replace my thermostat?) I suspect so, but im not sure what is "normal" for a normal sho.
Secondly, when i stop the car i notice a slightly piney smell from under the hood...could this be the clutch? is it about to go?
Finally, can the cooling fan/relay switch assembly be swapped from a non sho into an sho taurus? will this cause problems?

thanks for the help, i wanna get my sho up to ***** even before i can get to the 60 K maintenance...

Hi Brian,

Welcome to the SHO world! I purchased my '94 ATX SHO in January as I second car to play around with and this is one of the problems I'm contending with now. The Temp gauge should be above the bracket some where in thye lower end of the range. I replaced my Thermostat and voila, not only does the engine heat up faster, but I got rid of my CE light problem.

Good luck!!

FYI, replace the temp sender at the same time. That's likely why your temp gauge is reading low.

yamaha v6, the temp gauge doesnt always read really low, for instance earlier when the car almost overheated because the fan did not come on, the gauge was really high, almost above normal. Does this still indicate a bad temperature sender? This incident earlier is also why i am asking about the cooling fan assembly. If I cant swap it, does anyone in the maryland area have a parts car with a cooling fan?

I don't know if this will help but my temp gauge was wiggin out on me up and down --- up and down type deal. I replaced the thermostat ---- didn't do much until I got a new water pump and now it doesn't go barely above the L in any driving condition. Which it may in 90 degree weather but hey its winter.
