Two questions,
First, I found a 1993 MTX yesterday in a u-pull-it yard and when I went to pull the rod shifter out, I found that the stabilizer bar bolt wasn't all the way tight, it felt like he stripped the hole in the tranny. After unscrewing the bolt, I can see that some of the threads in the tranny hole are gone. He also has about 6 washers between the head of the bolt and the body of the stabilizer bar. Would that have something to do with the stripped tranny hole?
And is that tranny ruined, what can I do to save it?
Second, I can't tell if the stabilizer bolt threads are damaged, does the tranny normally ruin before the threads of the bolt? Any idea why there are washers around the head of the bolt? Thanks.

The tranny case is aluminum and is just about guaranteed to strip the thread in the stabilizer boss rather than damage the bolt.

Take the tranny to a shop capable of welding aluminum, have them fill the old hole and tap it for the M14 threads of the stab. bolt.

I damaged my tranny in the same manner and used a 27/64" tap and bolt to repair it. I had to slighty bore the sleeve in the end of the bushing so the larger dia bolt fit properly.
